Indonesian Tsunami Strikes Band Mid-Show; Members Feared Dead
A deadly tsunami struck the Tanjung Lesung Beach Resort in Indonesia after an eruption from the volcano, Anak Krakatoa. It is being reported that over 200 people have been killed by the natural disaster, including members from the alternative rock band, Seventeen.
Video has surfaced of the tsunami wave crashing into the stage where Seventeen was performing.
In a very emotional video posted to their band's Instagram, vocalist Riefian Fajarsyah confirms that their bassist Muhammad Awal Purbani (aka "Bani") and their road manager Oki Wijaya were among the casualties. “We lost our bassist Bani and our road manager Oki," Reifian says in the video.
Riefian adds that other members of the band have been missing since the disaster, as well as his wife. "Andi [drummer> and Herman [guitar> and Ujang [crew> have not been found. The rest are thankfully safe although suffering from injuries and broken bones. Please pray so my wife Dylan, Andi and Herman and Ujang can be found soon.”
The tsunami came without warning because there was no earthquake reported. Experts believe that an underwater landslide may be the cause of the disaster.
