And even less downforce than a year ago we caught up within recently he described the challenges of a new season man it's hectic it's. This season is always crazy this. Point. You know 8 December or buys on vacation doing things in the come in first. January and it's panic mode and this year with a changing manufacturers. It'll pop up parts and pieces and the design and name. Our bodies. So it's been crazy. You know cause we've never really got started building and you know out of respect for. Appreciate you everything we can do anything we haven't done anything until my house so. We were out working really hard. So. You know it hadn't been much time appear in the office which I don't spend much time here anyway. Than chicken emails. I would avenue and the players. Yeah become hypocrites you it Q yes Dana back here right AM that's that hit a look at that there was a while to realize you know. Every December I get to go do that. So you know only a year from now I'll get to go back in deer hunt so usually via wanna hear. Yeah I keep him up here at some North Carolina dear my body in the congress plays and so I just. That's a passion among our love to do so I try to keep signs of that around you know if you get mad one day at his turn and look at him like December or get ago I don't know what's. You would be building new cars anyway to get ready for the season even if you hadn't on the switchover can you give folks who aren't as technically inclined to issue a sense of how monumental it is to change over basically from scratch well it is very difficult because you know likes and everything we had was it was modeled around. You know the shuttle peso. You know the wire harnesses the lawlessness and the cooling system to radiators we'll coolers. The fuel tanks com all of those things are different the way that Ford Motor it's initiating. That that the chassis doesn't know what motorists and and other than amounts. Pump and unfortunately. You know that the war pumps are different places are steers us in different places on all fours so. Revenue compensate and retrofit or taxis. To accept the forty inches so that's a process in itself plus building a brand new chance he's. Com and but it's the parts and pieces that yes you know that's just the parts and pieces that we have to change to. From the Chez Vito fours one thing and then the other NASCAR thinks that having you on top of that. It was just very stressful right now. Changed with the news switch over to the gas even lower downforce package. You have all got a big chunk of that back by the end of last year how similar do you think it's going to be this year in terms of starting off here and ending up they're. I only honestly I don't I don't see how we're gonna get back to where we were because there's only so many areas to work on these cars and NASCAR. They're getting very very Smart very good at knowing there areas we'd like to work at. And they slowly but surely you're taking those areas away from us so. I think each year. When we start with these changes NASCAR. It's a little bit smarter and our our gains are a little bit smarter smaller throughout the years so. You know I would I would say I mean I I'd be if it will give half of what we did last year I think that would mean stretches. All the change over stuff aside what do you take from last year. That is your main thought going into this year that you got right there in the thick of it very close and so many guys can say that what do you take forward going 12017 which is well I think we got to work. On 41 car we have to work on the other detail stuff that that kind of citizen a couple of races last year. Com here is mostly about details anyway that whoever does best holiday usually is is the one that wins a lot so. Come you know the detail work that he knows the teamwork is working better as a team and mean Kirk getting better at making changes on the race card Iowa there are no we can't endure a race. Com is crucial. And then there's guys out there that. Obviously do a lot better job and I'm doing. But I I try to learn and I try to learn from those guys and pick up on it now watch films like football dealing you know watch races and I'll listen guys how they communicate and more questions today asking is there way that I can be better communicated heard so. In our best option. I have a great picture of her top on board every year there right there. But we can always be better we always you know there were certain races whether it's road course race or RO a speedway race we have issues with tight fenders or whatever. How we make those racetracks are pit stops that are those racetracks so. Com just fine tuning the details every year. You can sit down and you make notes throughout the year what would do better when I go back to that track. We do the same thing you can do here is a simulation programs you better you sit down the engineers. You know what do we need to address to make ourselves go to that next step you know. We wanna give her the best part we came in and performed. You know it can help him win a championship. You know. Last year we we've we've we've ran really good we didn't run as good in the year in the chase as we did the previous year. I thought you know and and you know 2015 we're pretty strong car we were. Mean we were we were a threat to win this thing. You get wrecked at Martinsville but leading the race doing the things we need to do to get final four and I felt like we are stronger car and fifteen an hour and sixteen so. I feel like you know we've we have delivered their homework here on the 41. Correct in those issues. You only get one shot at it so that's what we're doing now working on the details stuff out of their cars better. You know wind tunnels papers my communication. Kirch communication while working together. You know and traffic reports just going to be extremely good yeah obviously. Roush Yates motors are going to be pretty pretty good. The other top of them the border crossing millionaire in the second case guess power. Can card a couple of times there and does it seem view because it does to me looking from the outside in that he's settling into his own skin and seems more at peace that he has been previously he had don't hurt. Two years ago you know when we first started this deal with him that he let beat you gotta. You know when the races on and we love in this what we wanna do but you know we're all getting older and we're not only doing this all of our lives so. You gotta kind of future life in perspective on what you gonna do when you're not driving and when I'm on him when I'm not crew chief and make sure you have a good foundation around sidelight of racing. Something that massive concrete to step into so I think he's gonna really good job it. Or actually is a perfect fit for him. You know they they they mayor Jeff really cute and you know they support each other in their own and she's a polo player and he supports her and that rolling. And she supports him in the race since so. You know. I feel like that I've done a fairly decent job of helping her understand that you. It's a bad day but it's a good day. Find positives. Stay calm let's work on things you know things aren't as bad as they seem sometimes and never give up to the checkered flag falls and I think. My relationship it has Curtis got stronger and stronger. Throughout over the past couple years. And I think all that just kind of marriages and in his life is good again have to worry about race cars and whether we're gonna give the best so we came casinos that. He can focus on his his his driving in that his personal life and I think it's so funny here and now. Check out our season preview for Stewart Haas racing now what MRI and dot com. This is contracts for Tuesday February 14 I'm when he came in Concord, North Carolina. Life.
