Tattoo that now sits on his ice that. I ask that Danny between that if you haven't seen it and just says fantastic. And shorter as my race was I could have gone with. Which you know that was getting a sense of humor peeking out obviously he had the greatest day. On Sunday but the fans tattoo is pretty incredible is giant. And is on his biceps and just like he promised he went straight to the tattoo shop on Sunday he'd let let's go get a taxes of goodness. Our hammock you know. Welcome back to NASCAR live you know the 21 bunch wood Brothers racing Ryan lady started off the season with a runner up finish in the Daytona 500. Over the weekend in Atlanta cow Ricky was able to sit down and talk with the second ear cup series driver. As he gets ready to embark upon a full 2017. Right in the middle of the pack that I think governor all turned over to Ryan lady up on the outside trying to don't really excited you're kind of like boy needy boy you can. I completely knows this get their three wide behind. First off congratulations a great way to open the season. Very pumps about giving your I guess your second full time season with the team started. Yeah yeah thinks itself. This nice food yet it starts this season. You know as they try to second anywhere but when you see the leader in the 500 and they can't quite get there. Very little bit but it's definitely did start the year unless there was this off season for you. More relaxing than last year going in your first full time season but you have a kind of a full year under your belt Allison more relaxing. You know you must work a little bit harder just because you know how much it takes to be competitive. In the cup level that part is there's definitely. Something that. You you work on all offseason doing in your second year village we're a little bit harder just to know that it takes a lot more. Toronto process in this series compared to get accused are so many great teams are so many more. Competitive people and it and so six a lot of work to try to get up get up front so. I would say more election probably more what we're seeing it as a driver what are you hoping to work on this here. You know I think. To see you try to work out things about yourself and team and I'm only in the offices you kind of sit back and you're hooked up. Get away from things have been have a little bit of an outside perspective looking man in. There's things I wanted to improve on his communication side between. Myself and my team mainly my crew chiefs and engineers and and I just the preparation work was said before is a lot. Higher and to be prepared before you get to the racetrack. Just little things that I feel like make a big difference and then on the track stuff to his own another. One of the situation with the just little things trying to get yourself. Feel better driver. I'd be a part of want it's it's really really need to be felt that you looked up to as a kid and I Fella who is one of the best individual time so. And it's really great that. We review that would Pixar and there's a lot of young drivers in it there's a lot of veterans and end guys as cool to have that kind of mix up. That's awesome and dale also was out of the 500 it was gonna remarkably sad and I would get became a doctor and a little bit and I'm excited for the movie this comes out this summer and he's going to be that's when it Brian inside waning is that whenever we really clever name it's funny to me how they've got to pick out my name and ask them. I understand you really get into it like you shut the shades and brought him back of the motor home and it's really dark and you get that full experience thus lights off. Night time. We try to played in a day and it's just not us as terrifying but that. Tell you gotta get pulled back volume all the way up you have didn't. Who into the West Coast this week handy thing. Fund planned these next three weeks that you stay out there the whole time yeah I stayed out last year between Phoenix and Fontana and how much they all three races now. Players thereby open is coming to Vegas which is nice. In my younger sister's point birthday is Sunday young race that so that'll be pretty and they just a couple days after some of hailed them. But we're getting drinking and stuff like that that old. We'll. I think that damage due out there and go to Phoenix and then after the Phoenix race. Then I actually got the Los Angeles. Just think the NASCAR do it. This thing is going to be there's going to be pretty fun time so yes things in the works and and that was definitely thought about after we get them I love going out west and all the racetracks are a lot of fun there so much but some might favor racetracks are out there so. I'm excited to develop. Is there much you can learn this weekend at Atlanta and bring the Vegas next weekend both mile and a half racetracks but obviously both different shapes and then obviously the paper it's different. Nothing can bring something to it. A mile and a half. Especially north and having common you know Vegas is a good bit smoother and tires up off as much in here you know you're. 22 soon. Retirement and now a whole lot more it's this week's NASCAR live face to face interview. Johnson went to homestead at an hour's hot just in making seventh championship. Behind Billy Dale Earnhardt and. Daddy to dozens sixteen marked his seventh team in. First premier series. How do you continue to have motivation. As opposed to this country like Nolan and analyze think it's coming up. I say. It's never been about the stats I don't have a sense of accomplishment you know I haven't had a a number of responses that are championship to. You know that that was my target goals so that I think that helps. Plus I mean my my role in the team has changed in a lot of ways and beyond competing for different reasons now I did work for started. First and foremost of my families in this moment with my family. Trying to be a mentor ever for chase another young drivers in the Hendrick system even on the other young drivers and all the business and other teams and I just like we'll be so. Sure we will check the box and go out and make myself up your race and competing and trying to personal goals but. That they're a lot more holes and some very broad goals bits. Join kind of achieving this morning. Big changes for Tony seventeen. How much more competitive. And also restore funding is this going to be as a driver. It from a competition standpoint and in. In op I'm looking at this in thinking it's gonna affect me quite a bit specially for segment points because qualified Sonoma sweet spot. Concern on Fridays we're qualified so I'm excited about I think the take away from basically from the is the fact that everyone with a real interest in the sport were. You'll somewhere along the way for and have more opportunities for desperation is gonna come and play well when when you add these other elements desperate things will start to. Happen more often and that will make for compelling storyline since. Carl Everett shocked a lot of people before the season started saying he was gonna retire he instantly from racing for you. What's going to be an indicator. To retire whether that's a year from now or you know it could be ten years from now. I think it's the same things Carl's consider it and what led to Karl's decision you know we it will all happen to us that are on temper own reasons but. I'm always from the believe the time I'm worried about keeping her and stepped down because. In mind. Opinion watching. When somebody's thinking about retiring just out there that's that's when they get hurt. To the demands of the family. And and three he's just you are now at some point. So considering all of I feel that the sixteen point. You know our sports marketplace and and you know I'm I'm personally comfortable with that elements. And in the other two pieces. My my wife and I worked really hard to to move around the country enjoy the travel books or with their kids. Our world travel slowed down some because there's been some young bit. We know what our policies are awfully it's typically are. We have these two unit that took place this summer. Booked up and ready and we plan to travel and explore in and try to. Filled out bucket a little bit past some balance and I feel like we're we're too many good things there because I haven't hit the burnout phase surrogate stuff it's it's a grind it. I find it if I if I focus will have more on. Puts more time in the personal bucket bouncing our law. Living Colorado for the first part of the season what are some of the advantages to being removed from kind of the sinner NASCAR here in Charlotte. And then what it may be some of the challenges. The removed from from Charlotte really. It's only a problem because I'm not around the team and my guys that element relationship so important. You know in Colorado others. It's just. This will mind shift in the way things take place outdoors her such a vital part of everybody's daily activities and even having our kids in school. And they insist that your child can go outside for at least an hour every game. They keep these outside damn about your curriculum. And a half days on Wednesdays at mandatory scheme is it snows enough in the morning. It's it's just a phone twist now outdoors and green out or it and his courage case. And then I like. Like why am there like what I mean to. You not a time that my wife and I tree or house and in things that we do together. It's just been been great for a semester it's a full time thing and there's no way to be full time while I'm a recent count but we consider him for once give a shot at a time. Talk about your daughter's a luncheon meeting Hamlet yes specifically Lydia and how much of yourself you seen her what's one trait that you just watching him like man that is Albany. If we it's his own name there and everything she does that might not what it looked like and that's the way they support the eye could see what she's thinking that that's me. On the her determination and she gets her mind set on something. She's she liked him. We'll hope let up. And I love her bravery right now on the mountain and she's been schemes that she was seventeen months and I mean she can should flock on skis and in their biggest problems stopping. Which we'll get that sorted out but she'll she'll fly them that's great. Between industry back in December it was a photo of the house you grew up and and you've had along senate but the common you know we didn't have a nice house but we had new dirt bikes going up here. I'm your roots makes you appreciate the success in the stability that you have now. It's really do. Hold anybody who they are and I'm so thankful for my roots and my journey. And that certainly in my my kids. You want the best for your kids and I've I know it's situation. I'm in their race in this is when I went through so. We're trying hard to. Him and put our foot down on on on many things on and especially things that my wife and I both were important are bringing to help us learn. About hard work determination and drive them and you respectful citizen. Global citizen and a lot of different things that were analyzed to keep trying to sell. So I love put that picture up on the photo could it up fast enough. Differ I've had some very very good ride through the years and been very fortunate to end up on high level teams. I think many forgive me many don't knows it now. And that the group trailer park until we moved into the house I think the trooper was nice and healthy individuals but the stuff. And we were racing we go to local deserts and cry to him activity. Summertime. It jet skis. You know it's so a lot of great memories it all with all. Yeah I would I was really happy with around Atlanta this past week and any time I ran there in the previous. Three even that bit and cut and terrible so. At night. He run inside the pop. For most of their race so you're just showed how far are keen com too last start out the year that as well we have and you happy with the hour innings on the first two races you know we've had. It's been our cars and on pit stops good execution so he's got to keep a gallon and you know hopefully you know he continued to win like this weaken our. One of the questions that has come from the Atlanta weekend was the decision that you made to give Brad the Bob on the racetrack after restart why did you do that. Everybody thinks say they know. What I should've done but at a 100% believe I did the right saying. I know negative GD didn't show Brad passing mean. Five times before early in the race but. In every single time you indeed close to me in one and two and you're up. On top and and blow by me on exits so and you have the part of the racetrack where he was a lot better in Iowa as. In.
