The following is a production of the motor racing network. The voice of NASCAR. It up the motor racing network present. NASCAR live. Nobody really have to earn that respect you look at nor can men guys like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon and Dale Junior even. If you drove in the wrong way you real quick that he screwed up face elegant charging for the field at comic side to run in in the classes this year I think we've gone. We'll be bored diaries and I didn't. That's neat things kind of brush up on on Steve everything from the look. Racing network studios in Concord, North Carolina series your folks Mike Bagley. Now everybody welcome to another edition of NASCAR live it is so good at. To be back on dry land we spent last week on the high seas and you heard it right here on NASCAR live. NASCAR the crews set sail at a Miami we went to Key West we made a stop in Nassau on a course. Back on the mainland and last week's show it was fantastic so much so. Now we have a lot left over on the cutting room floor and we're gonna devote a portion of today's show. Exactly to that Rusty Wallace Kyle Petty David Reagan McCain traitor all joined us on stage. You'll hear more of that visit coming out you're also gonna hear more my conversation with Dale Earnhardt junior he jumped on the boat down their Key West. Had a great conversation would Dale Junior will wrap that conversation up in the this edition of NASCAR live later on the shelling got exclusive conversations but Martin Truex junior with Ty Dillon also chase Elliott and Brendan on. Jack Kuroda is gonna stop by he'll have a page from the past we've got. A whole lot more but I look reported this it's our first chance to get our first social media update at 2017. Came Boone. Is back in the house I guess Kim happy new year. And you know. What's gonna just rest enough before the season it's don't want. I know part of that process was spent over the weekend resting up during the Super Bowl and I saw a lot of tweets in the world of NASCAR both for the patriots both for the falcons some people didn't care but. It mobile social media needle here. Last Sunday. Absolutely you know people were talking about the actual on field stop first and cyclical ever went into overtime with a school. But a lot of drivers crew chiefs industry for tonight is weighing in on what they thought about a half times. I know I have to Austin Dillon said good job blade guy got out Rodney Childers with the fan I have to confess to. Jimmie Johnson weighed on in on his favorite commercials hee-seop but you think that stood out to me a lot of people enjoyed that Daytona day commercial that featured. James and Abby and I know for. The the Dawson's Creek and it kind of hit a high note I've got some attention from not NASCAR fans which was cool. And even James Sanders between about it saying things Kozlowski for lending your suit. Promise I tried to slip too much so very very cool to kind of expanded the NASCAR isn't outside of this industry. And the other thing that's it out to mean I love NASCAR sweep towards the end of the Super Bowl it was very subtle. What it was it was a picture from last year's Daytona 500. That close finish between Denny Hamlin mark text here and all they wrote was you know close finishes. Hash tag Daytona 500 ash tag as 51 so cool way to incorporate. The Super Bowl with what we consider our Super Bowl coming up the data and it. And you know it's adjusting to note that last year. Actually it was a a year of rock solid very close the last moment finishes it started with the Daytona 500 that you just mentioned. The cubs went to game seven of the World Series. And then here we are full circle back in January early February of this year going over time. With the with the Super Bowl last Sunday has been a great year for sports and hopefully we'll have more those moments coming out we kick off our season. In a couple of weeks she mentioned Brad Kozlowski and I think a lot of people were. Lot of people were surprised at James Vander Beek and Brad Kozlowski look almost exactly alike on. And it's a possibility who knows that they redo Dawson's Creek. His last he's got a career end in television for the silver screen but it sounds like he also has a career that's in the making of a different sort. Yeah he's behind Leo this week but it's not the wheel. A race car he's actually going to drag the Zamboni for the Detroit Red Wings obviously he hails from. That area of Michigan so it'll be fun to see hand resurfacing the ice. For that NHL team buds. Yeah you're right stuff he's everywhere he's been on shark NATO he's building his resonating outside of just NASCAR driver. Who in his pockets that Brad Kozlowski of Rochester hills Michigan. Would be in the hospital for immediate takeover want accord to see you in Daytona obviously we'll talk to you next week is re ready for the clash. And coming up on the show we'll have more from last week's NASCAR cruise and later Dale Earnhardt junior will be a NASCAR live. The new NASCAR season in spring break are about to share one weekend at Phoenix raceway so what can you expect. Rowdy best tennis clothes or Harvick Jimmie and need any name and Johnson grills games like anything good news. And he's going to probably wanna keep on FaceBook now nine rule breaking took when he can you even read like everything away. Race day. Spring break. Why sport for the one true reality entertainment. What's on your mind more coming up from last week's NASCAR the truce this is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. NASCAR live now back to Mike Bagley. Our live rolling right along here on the motor racing network last week we took NASCAR live on the road well actually more like on the waves. When we were docked in Key West is a part of the NASCAR cruise Rusty Wallace Kyle Petty. And Ken Schrader join me on stage. And I asked him if they could have one thing back from their era of racing and implement it today. What would it be. Got some interesting answers can traders stepped up to the microphone first. Man it's it's so hard to answer that question because unfortunately for some reason right now we cannot make. We can make all the fans happy he used to be the first Daytona 500 I ran 195. I finished eleventh. Five laps down. Now tell me how good a race that was I mean 115 lifts them now here five seconds Matt you're not in the top eleven. You know be our crowd has become harder to make happy if we if we look around here unfortunately. Our our crowd has become older. You know we got to do something I don't care what it is to take generate new fans we we appreciate everything that. Everyone our age and younger. Does Faris but I mean really sad about heaven monster come in this year their whole marketing program they market the younger people. We just don't. We just can't make everybody happy and right now. And societies changes no doubt about that people got busier they're different things they got on their mind to do but still. I need you look at the numbers and stuff like down on me the races are put on out there right now are still really really good but. Mikey asked wolf what I would change I mean. I just got to go back to when I drove our cars are cartel a lot lot less downforce these slip is slated all over the racetrack you know they really get. And now NASCAR's doing that they're dropping that down force down there but softer tires trying to make you break them trying to make duration better I hope. That really works I know that's a step in the right direction. Bet going back your question about the triple hollow what are we feel a lot about that you know breaking up the segments and then at the big one at the end. That's cool if they wanted to try try something different always told people bang and I can learn nothing less you do let you got to try something you know whether it's right or wrong. Elect and here you got on that you glacier. I don't I thank you turn around it's just guys active life here's what I told him about this. I think they've never got around and nobody that I didn't approve a massive case runways of aipac that. I don't know whether they get mad men and that we're not a standup but how petty. Thank back in the day when hair. Manson now all of lay down shelves I think he's still got that you don't act game beat dad is loaded up his wisely and that every night I don't I don't know about that. I mean I don't know doing here right now. That might that. Impact that a question about what will what's it like. Well hubbub Holtz act because I think it did this we'll treat towards greeted at the earmark into it. Would you rather have that had to herald how many who would you have rather have rusty Wallace's Afro back in the day and that's how hot you know yeah I'll glance. Anti competition. At this point not an iPad take even one album yeah that's right after the clintons are now made it now that was a good break right there in early life. I hear people talk about half wrote I thought cal blocked by being up. I'm trying to think what you look like Jeremy who would like Yani Yani Yani has tried flotilla. Guys right at right now what do you think what what's the question if you could get one thing back from your era. Bill France junior. What I thought I think if I just I think sometimes. That whether. You guys like it. Mean I'm fans whether we liked it. It make any difference you just out this dad told us what to do when to do it and how to do it and we all went out and dead and somehow it war. New words every week I am not saying that we covered this man are you waiting many times pointed arrested yet and I'm pointed right at the bat I don't. We'd like everything. They make rule changes you get that like everything we don't want now come along pretty damn good so I can't you know Dilfer. She or he told me one time leases sit up in the suite at Daytona watches cars run around. We would all get doubters Heyman on the depth and it harbors board are indeed a bigger motor IV this Sunday that. And we would send evolve this. Documentation. All the guys in the big car manufacture teaches them all this paperwork. And he said man I don't want any paperwork I don't need none of that crap. I sit up my slate now watch all the cars run and no one has consistently in the back that's the guy that needs the most help. At least until I don't give me any data I don't need get the guy is never up front that's the guy got to help. Rusty Wallace Kyle Petty and Ken Schrader serving up some commentary and analysis David Reagan did the same. Later in the show that he joined me and one of the gas in the crowd asked about having more road courses on the NASCAR schedule. I think there's a little bit and talk about the Charlotte motor speedway that got a road track is very similar to Daytona. I think it needs to be the right road race you know I don't think that the Charlotte motor speedway road track or road courses is the right one. May erode Atlanta or something and then in the southeast obviously you can't go to. To Watkins Glen in November. But. I think the road course in the chase would be okay it would be OK with me. I used to be against road racing because I thought that maybe the road to reform the road course raiders went kinda beat up on NASCAR guys you know but now a days. The NASCAR guys are all look good road racers in fact he'd ever road course ringers that I call it. Really can't compete with the regular NASCAR guys of light so. Personally I'm fine with Evan road courses are not be pretty excited and up with David on that one. You know Charlotte motor speedway is a great place I went around the road course and it feels pretty good. But it let me be bigger and more road raged Al field to compete there are so. Yeah I'm all for use in a place like blockage plan a mall for user plays like 'cause Sonoma California. If they were gonna do it. But yeah that that got a good ring and it to me I mean I think a road course deserves to be in the chase. What road course playoffs. All right that's right whale new vernacular now that's right what road course though that is not on the schedule today while not talking road America mid Ohio and all that. What road courses up and that you might see hosted NASCAR race. There's debris that comes to mind you gotta be in the southeast in October November he can't have a day words. 35 degrees and it's freezing call that's got to be the end of Birmingham racetrack which Africa at the the name they've got their the the grand amerasians second race of the year are forget that this skip barber motorsports complex Arnold reports Barbara motor sports market Birmingham. Road Atlanta. And awesome facility or at Virginia international raceway. The IR as a good ones they want not like a lot also as Monterey California moderated its a great track Airese does cop cars that corkscrew. That be fun that low given Dorell Wright. Have you ever heard that I don't know I have not really I have not you know the tracks have ran pars road cores have been Watkins Glen. In that road America every Riverside fact that. A one the last few races of Riverside it was a great track for me I was we can bring that when Baghdad that was a heck of a track I mean some cool guys trainer AJ Foyt. Heard Kelly Jones I mean all. Mario Andretti and Mario majority Emmys in his a lot of good ones I. When I won that track that was one that I went wild that was like you live and has pulled that one off but doubt love that place. That's Rusty Wallace and David Reagan from last week's NASCAR the cruise another person that joined us on the boat last week. Was Dale Earnhardt junior will hear more from that conversation coming up and later Martin Truex junior stuff spy. Buckle up sit down sit back and relax because he's coming up next this is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. It is NASCAR live now back to Mike Bagley. Thank you so much for joining us on this week's edition of NASCAR live last week Dale Earnhardt junior. Stepped aboard the Norwegian pearl is a part of NASCAR the crews we were docked in Key West he sat down and we had a great chat because of the timing of last weeks of that conversation had to be cut but we've got the rest were you right here. We talked about the personalities of the seventies and the eighties you know guys like. His dad kale Yarborough Bobby Allison David Peterson guys that certain certainly offered a different person Sauna and had a unique persona about that. I asked him if we've lost that in today's NASCAR. And if there are guys out there are now that have that type of personality on the racetrack. Yeah absolutely. And most of the guys that are like dad. Paper and then it I don't know if it's age they have something to do this. But when when somebody hits 3540 years old it's coming in Stanford's of these. And plus minus nineteen point twenty years old doesn't there does the talks. Fit it. That ethic everybody has their limits all the drivers news and how you can. I think how you react and how you carry yourself outside the cars. How you will be perceived it with your actions inside the cars. Did you know you keep you can you can grab a certain way on the track but the way you act when your new way you respond in the way you act here's a fast out of car. You know connects to and the fans and all that together make make an error in judgment. Whether you even draft well when you Cleveland. This is where your stuff there. All that stuff matters not just what you do at home track what did you laugh tracks. But my enemy those guys. Those guys that trend. It is going you did transfer driver is going younger there are some guys that are. That are really really competitive. And you know 384042. Years old this series. But it. Yeah you had guys like. You know hey everybody else's return a him late forties when embraces her late forties feel compelled to steal our profound changes in. That trip that's trending younger. And now we need that. How we relate to the scene and younger drivers these things on the track a little bit different. I don't think we look here 24. You know he's an intimidating. The Canadian style but my father was and I don't think you look at my dad. When he was in his twenties throughout the way through its management in an interview Kennedy could fit about it you know what can anybody else. But once once he became that help elderly statesman and then he he he knew he was like yeah. And he didn't end all the younger guys. Coming agent like. Your PC don't return. Question what Dale Junior was recovering from his concussion he spent some time in the TV Booth. He also spent some time this year on motor racing network last fall at Talladega. I asked what he thought about that experience and it's a lot. More interesting to me as I get older have an opportunity I guess to see what it jumps like it takes a unique. Skilled individuals. To view radio that's pressure I don't know that I have. That kind of talent radio just takes a certain style of person that really understands what they're doing and TV's a little less. Challenging at least that's what I experienced. And there's a lot more. There's a lot more going on in the TV business and assist anyone in the air soon. Like what are those guys are getting information into quality time to sort of shades. They shape the content and travelers what's going on the radio. Guys are really. Running measure over all and it was so impressive to be in the the morning I'll lose in Talladega and see dad working and it was it was more straight down and I thought it would be alone on Moscow radio. And the guys that are doing here as soon steals and he also and at that time off perfectly lap after lap after lap after lap grab an action. And the way the energy did radio uses I admire you they use an energy that's a little more. You know exciting here are killing them and television and that's what changed over the years. Not to get on a long rant here but. When you're doing radio you have to see them paint a picture and that takes a lot more. He had to be more colorful and the energy little higher. And that's exciting yeah. It's exciting to licences. And that was how he used to be has a lot of TV guys and us when we first started having televised races a lot of this CVS paid radio. And so they just had bad bad Colleen those races of the entire energy. It was. Awesome and it you hear anything you'd never hear about anybody needing the television turning off listening to radio operates on TV. That is as the years went by. Energy for an interview on TV it's kind of listen a little bit and there's a lot more errors. Yeah and not gimmicks that there's a lot more. Can't stand it you know. And its involvement. In the TV Saturday. Where the fans are seeing how the cars are bill and how there you know what. Failures you know how the graphics and being on TV it's grab what's what's going on about draft works and what that person to get attention when you're in the TV do you think you're going to be up there in your system and scrap actions hurt. You know you're in that segment you can go to commercial. Let's be honest with you if you pay attention guys in the do actually only get a small windows actually talk about what's happening because they're gonna tell they had this stuff on here. You don't gonna go to this guy and talk about what's happening now hits and get out on the commentary from what is yet he himself. There's little time windows just so interject what you're seeing on the track and a lot of things that come popping your hitting every get a chance to talk about on TV says. This move. Moore is so much more into an ever thought I'm so lucky Phil. You don't feel fortunate to have an opportunity currency gets out of hand I think it helps me understand. You know there's a lot more Tylenol race weekend just drop the car. That's Dale Earnhardt junior as we spoke last week on NASCAR the crew's coming up march next junior would join us and later I Dylan. Girls batteries are proven tough in the most extreme conditions there just to start and a 104 degree heat or temperatures of forty below. Yeah dubbed their of that tough so they can do that they can definitely perform for your nephew's soccer game. Work through scattered thunderstorm will be dependable on Sunday afternoon trips to the grocery store because no matter what the weather's like it's nice to know that you've got a proven tough girl last battery under the a girl ask proven tough. And sold only an auto zone puts up America. This is power. This is freedom. This is tradition the art and this is being who you were meant to be where you are meant to be. This is more than a race this team is Talladega. Just party and NASCAR returns may fifth through seventh for. Calling sums up. It's speed weeks twice seventeen is right around the corner and motor racing network has you covered soup to nuts. Right here on Saturday that's February 18. Monster energy NASCAR cup series cars will be qualifying for the great American race in our coverage begins at 3 PM eastern again next Sunday. February 19. Martin Truex junior is coming up next this is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. Is NASCAR live now back to Mike Bagley. Welcome back to NASCAR live recently motor racing network Alex patent and it just catch up with Martin George junior talked about the upcoming season. Martin George junior died down the bottom of the race strategist tricks the legal way from Ken here comes the tell us now Martin Truex junior gives. I have to be ready to raise for a championship you bet he has done. And here at the monster mile and Martin. What you hear is a winner once again teammate and furniture row racing as expanding. What does that mean like here in getting ready for this season that to bring Eric Jones in move to a two car team what's the experience been like. It's really been I've been pretty smooth everything's going well I was it's shopped just this week few days ago for a few days in. They did a great job you know our shot wasn't that big to begin with and and they had to do some renovations and and kind of opened things up just to run two cars as they're so. I think that was probably the biggest part of the project and of course Arab peoples of big projects and they've been really work on that for a while but Tom. So far everything's going smooth Chris Gayle I think is is a great guy for the job received wise and and Nicole seemed to really be on the same page and that's important because wanna keep that chemistry going inside the shop what we've had in and keep. Keep things positive and and having fun so. I think so far everything looks great I was at the waist yet goes on track but that excited about it. I know where it's got a great opportunity ahead in this and I'm looking forward to working with him. Hopefully bring something that table and you'll see we can do to our observers excited pumped every ghost like every other season but does the media a little bit different kicked off here. You mentioned Cole that your crew chief Cole turned. If you were kind of a leader you're the one that say hey look if your gonna do these jobs need to step up and you become a leader and he's done that. Give us an idea what he's like now because working with him watching him during practices in the garage slam the races something completely different but. Practice sessions he's a maniac he's all over the place and what's called her like. He did. B Sammy yeah. I mean he is he really does it all mean he's. He's not afraid to take control and that's what he did when he stepped in after chief and you know everybody's just stood behind him and and just followed his path. He's done a great job obviously build the phenomenal race semen. You mean him really. Agree we really connected and clicked while he was up my engineer and that's you know part of the reason why he moved up to the receipt crew chief position but I don't think. Do any of us could see just how good he was gonna take that job on him and things he was going to be on the accomplishments it's tournament time so. He's just a great leader he's motivated he works his guts out I mean every day that's all he's doing and his best. Are you I've ever had by far and and hopefully some equity for all time so he's impressed. Finally mark finished. Obviously the offseason we saw Carl Edwards of come out and say you know what I'm not that's it that's enough I've I'm satisfied with my career dinosaur has taken over that steering wheel. Your reaction today to not only Carl's stepping away but haven't you know race against a guy who's never race and Sprint Cup Series race report. Well I've I was a little bit surprised when I first heard about. You know Karl's decision it is just that way but at saint Thomas kind of understand he has got to families. He's done a lot of things in racing he's he's made a great like for himself you're racing so. I don't know that I'm sure it was a tough decision form you know I think it. I always felt like Carl's of those guys that are race at least fifty in and you would seem like he's having fun and enjoy themselves but you know sometimes life gets in the way things get important. That we respect his decision I respect him as a person and as a driver he was unbelievable. Sort of clear mr. progressively comes around a little bit. Comes and sees all of us and and makes close friend works department. You know just still this over surprised that so we're definitely a mess and you're as far as I think he's gonna do great job if you look what he did the last two years I mean he'd come out of nowhere and won exchange championship. You're really into guys who have fears have. He's been really impressive best talks and a little bit here and there seems a really cool guy look forward to. This year racetrack with a minnow fleet battle and for some wins along the way. You know I am gonna guess it finally be you know I am and expand on that because. Whenever there's of a rookie that comes in and we ask you these questions when you're a rookie what we bash Daniel and we will ask Dana when we get to Daytona. How do you earn respect from the veterans when you're a veteran. How old do these rookies earn your respect sounds funny comment better I don't feel like if you know it's it's really just all about staying composed and then drive in with respect and not making. You stupid mistakes are putting other guys in bad positions so. You know you really have to earn that respect if you look at you know when I came in guys like Tony Stewart Jeff Horton. You know Dale Junior even. If you read them wrong way you knew real quick. That she screwed and yes the same way today. You know so. Of course Tony's gone sort of feel a little bit easier maybe Bette with the fact that he is right about the artist on please. Gary just racer respect with respect how you want your racist and you know usually guys. Yet there. That's mark your XJR and Alex Hayden still to come tied Dylan and later we got a page from the past with Jack a root. A rebellion is rice's. NASCAR right now a new generation ready to unseat the establishment. I don't know I think the wind up before they can beat the best they've got to beat the best car. These guys and Kyle Busch. Now he's got to do something win. Names are made here the NASCAR extended the series season premieres February 25 on the motor racing network. The voice of. Sunoco rookie of the year contender high Dillon joins us next. This is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. NASCAR live now back to Mike Bagley. It's so great having you along the thoughts on this week's edition of NASCAR live. Let's talk for a moment about Sunoco rookie of the year contenders one of them in the cup series will be tied Dylan. To be driving the number thirteen Chevrolet is I spoke with a recently about the upcoming season and how excited he was to see his grandfather Richard Childress. Inducted into the NASCAR hall of fame. There was there's so cool and just so honored to be able to put our grandfather and hall of fame and then. Also surrounded by so many legends and you look at T in the sport and just be a part of that night is something I'll never forget you lived a lot of his career there's a lot you have a live. Do you go back could be read about India look at old YouTube videos all that stuff about where he came from like half they started out way back in the day Yang and we're always question and asking and in his town a stories from time and literally always those stories mothers don't hunt north. Some of the back in the days stores are still squeeze in some out of me does tells all of yet but. It's it's cool to go back to live in those moments than and relive it with him and hear about the old days is make you appreciate that they were in now and we'll we have so it's a race with now well let's talk but you what you have you now have a full time cup Friday. In the monster energy NASCAR cup series that's gonna take a little bit to get used to notice well pay yellow ball a blind squirrel finds that a renowned edit what I do you what do you expect aces this year way to try to do you know just getting better every time and don't worry check inning with a new team in being a rookie driver. We had a great year for guys and in booty markers a highly motivated person as everybody knows and I think is as long as we get better every timing on the racetrack we're gonna have a shot to. Deathly go out when the rookie year in and adding to their eyes on trying to make the chase I think we do that's going to be a very successful season forest. I think it's very much and in our possibility and in the range of fully do you know you talk about that rookie of the year battle these got a whole lot more complicated here about a week and a half ago. It's now used. Eric Jones is not Daniel Suarez yes the competition that after shear and looking forward Xena raised of those guys for the past couple years makes mini series and now we're on the Internet together as kind of cool to see Dan McGinn has our Cheney is a great guy and so we're all here at the Ricky seminar yesterday and to get ready for the season and it's going to be great battle those desert are hungry guys aside myself and a look for his challenge now as far as the new race team obviously with such a great race and all that segment booty marker get a chance to sit down with him and work things stay with. You and him and and and what's the transition like going to have Randy race team we do death. I get to know the guys to come get the lay of the land whether Arab. That other quite a bit just hang now then get another body kind of formed and a chemistry in and get ready for this year and it's you know it's always different I grew up RCR a terrorist and every day and being an Irish also known everybody in there. So any transition did Francine Geller then and outlets. Having the same in no way things are ran as a very family oriented organization everybody's really close so. The transitions and really Smith because I I feel like I know what they expect it sits ran very similar Garcia. They're by his and so welcoming in the feel like home already so. I'm looking forward to start and something great over there Germaine Mason Bob's been wonderful. And their byes it's been so supportive so I'm looking forward to you know take in X that in all of continually to get better throughout the year in and take. Germain racing him myself to the next level you know I produce a couple times I you wanna do you wanna get better you wanna do things better as a race for her do that for those people they're listening. How does race for Trevor get better you just got to work hard you know in in and take every opportunity you have to learn in and so bad yourself. I think in the cup series everyone's continually getting better they're always changing and adapting to whatever the new changes in the car. Whatever is going on the sport so. To be could cab driver I think you always have to be working on getting better every time I get on the racetrack so I think if we focus on that movie success. That's tied Dylan one of the Sadako rookie of the year contenders for 2017. As we get closer to the start of the season the memories and the history of the sport of NASCAR are coming back with some of the veterans of the sport. And it's interesting to note especially for your knee or NASCAR fans. The season didn't always begin at Daytona International Speedway with the Daytona 500. Jack a route has a page from the past and he. As we count down the days until the 2017 monster energy NASCAR cup season starts. It reminded me that. The Daytona 500 was not always the very first race of the season in fact from 1963. Through 1981. NASCAR's Winston cup season started at the Riverside international raceway in Riverside California. With their running up the Winston western 500. Populated hello rob Riverside California for the best bet you'll win the one earned 500 grand national Navistar truck inaudible real way. Former winners of that race include Dan Gurney. AJ Foyt and Mark Donohue Richard Petty kale Yarborough Bobby Allison Darrell Waltrip. And ray elder last year California and a red elder and how our regular all the major supply the water by the cobra. The racing farmer from carruthers California scored an upset victory in the 1971. Race. Which also marked the very first race under the NASCAR Winston cup fan. Now for years NASCAR's West Coast swing is included Winston west cars. A series unto its own there raced exclusively west of the Rocky Mountains they are considered no match for their East Coast cousins. NL there was a multi time Winston west champion. He started in wrote do in that 1971. Race and watched as Richard Petty Bobby Allison and yell Yarborough wrestled the lead. And up front is a battle it is a tremendous war hawk lives the lives they weave their way through lapped cars and everybody at Riverside California. Attrition was always high road courses you see transmissions and engines we're pushed to their very limit elder and his family's dodge played conservatively. Racing the track and waiting for the field to shrink. That conservative approach left elder with more car at the end. And a lap 180 he took the top spot from Bobby Allison and cruised home to attend and a half second victory. The Winston cup series loaded up and left Southern California to begin their preparations. For their second race of the season the Daytona 500. Ray elder. Well he went home to his farm. And waited for the Winston west's second race of the season. And Ontario California. Which by the way I happen to be the third race of the NASCAR Winston cup season. Riverside ten came a little more than fifteen years after that elder victory when the track was sold. The purchaser. An MRI and turner announcer. From the Riverside broadcast by the name of experts do that we'll eventually converted the track into the Marino valley mall. For pages from the past I'm Jack Edwards. Thank you Jacki still to come on the show and Jay Sally it's gonna stop buying and later NASCAR X thirty series driver Brendan gone. It's a new era of NASCAR excitement is absolutely no toilet Donald runs on the call. The monster energy NASCAR cup series rings on table play. Harley yeah featuring the world's best drive yeah. Fighting for the biggest prize in races. Energy NASCAR cup series in the Daytona 500. February 26 on the money. Hendrick Motorsports driver chase Elliott is coming up next this is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. He is NASCAR live. Now back to Mike Bagley. Welcome back to NASCAR live chase Elliott is entering his second season in the monster energy NASCAR cup series. His rookie season not bad at all he generated ten top fives seventeen top tens. And he also led 358 laps of the season this year he's going to be looking for that first win what became topic chase in a NASCAR live face to face interview. I can watch Jay Philly it don't buy it took to the bottom line shot to the top playing not only blocked in the race it looked a lot of confidence. He worked hard today about faith selling it back and help of his teammates out of today's tally of looking like Nevada right now we'll give me. The first thing when asked about his adjusted to Vegas tire tests tell me a little about that experience it's going to be a lot of things are changing this year looks like but good time to get a baseline. I think. A lot of things changing in in some aspects a lot of things not changing kind of been about I look at itself. You know I feel like you got the run that package couple times last year. Michigan and Kentucky so I think they're by street let. What you gonna fight which can do it I was I was very interested and intrigued and impressed by a good year. I've done and what factors in the past few years and I was as aggressive as I've ever seen them. Was trying news. Things and being. You know pushing the issue on on certain tires and really finding out what that limit what that edges. Which I think is a great thing him on the big supporter of that so they know they have to be. To have a reliable tire they know. You know what they want it now they want their purse race weekend but I do think it was did just for them to get some good data as to how far they can go but I think you'll see. In a similar tire there when we go back to race there last season just because that's what they're comfortable with them. Hopefully they have some good developments on on those things waited around for downer. How interactive for those of me to they pretty much listening to what you goes toe loop feedback why is there is a pretty much OK guys try this try that. They they have a they set lists and sets. Agenda as to what tire they want her on the start off with what they call the control Tyre which is typically what we race them the last time at that track. That's that was spent the majority of the time on during the test usually. You know about half of your day indeed that the tester typically two days about half of your day each day is running through their agenda and you run. The man then I had your run. A fifteen lap run on every set that they wanna try as you can Monterey Jack come down that road and then there is interest mortgage you guys. There to talk to date they gauge feedback first thing in. And then you get in and I thought I needed another one so it's. Try to give it back to back his team is just keep the racetrack. As similar as possible your car balanced you don't want that to take a big shift so. Is very back to back its quick. You know which had run as many sets of tires as we can in that amount of time and and they're very very involved so hopefully we. Hopefully get some good data and and we guess we get data for ourselves. With things like that now and going into the season how much more comfortable are you in terms of knowing OK here's what I got accomplished here's what I can expect then you had been before. I think you've you know just a precedent he would any other week here parade season feel like you know have a lot of confidence and harder for guys and I feel good about our team and where. How round is and how committed he is the to winning and and and doing its job that we need view I knew there are aspects and areas that I want try to improve on that we discussed and talked about then. Really honest with each other as to what you know what I don't do well and I want improve on that you know and I think I think we can all do it as a group and I'm excited going in and I really. Try to be contending she. Speaking of Alan Gustafson your crew chief tell folks up in that they might not know about him that maybe they ought to. Allen is. Is that says that's a big I don't think he gets enough credit for the job he does not sell off that. I'm sure are a lot of drivers at about their receives that. Yacht had two legends of the sport look at me in and say he is is one of the best if not the best. Everything they've ever worked through it. And the two guys told me that. Ushered you have a lot of respect for and those two guys. You would certainly listen to than that she nods at the same thing so I couldn't agree more with them. And and I'm just proud to have him on our team I think yeah I think he brings a lot to the table. Not only distance war zone on the cars and working on it known analyst David is that. Leadership that he has and I treats our guys. It's all about people and you know treat them correctly and you know show and given in that respect that they desert than they think struck again very well and I think it's a very good balance of intensity when. When needs to be there in and that camaraderie amongst the guys to can make it on yeah. Next thing you know will be at Daytona when you first rule in their if you haven't been for a while what jumps out you what strikes you what thoughtful for your mind. I really just he may have well lot of thoughts as you there for so long and in February itself you know they step two weeks. Down there it's apparently things down inside Iran and in the class this year I think we've gone looking forward to that race again getting. Charts in these things kind of brush up on on the very thing. It's our of those things a lot of guys don't look forward to admit that the roughest races they count the same as the rest they all. They'll reward points and and they although we're wind so. And everything counts of think you just have to count embrace it and got taken to your own and and as the best game. Only one more turn for grinding on second here and now that ninety degree right hander that leads out under the front straightaway Brandon gone is gonna get the win. Your offseason that exciting doing some exciting things that we'll season. Offseason and does it feel right get the off season doesn't seem to be offseason that we'll use that big at all when are often done. We'll start the new company has some light shine out run and now and hand. Did that then spend casino business and doing a lot of there will be remodeled the parts it was misty and been doing that and build the field didn't Richard Childress racing go on and then all of a sudden find in the Daytona 500 right so it's better it's just. Kind of like man they just keep throwing crazy not only even busy they're T tracks that are busy right now and I'm sure you have. Some emotions about this in Texas and when everything that's that's. You have strong opinions about well look I mean. The hard part is Atlantis is. You know you hear the drivers talk all the time we love the older asphalt we love aged him weathered asphalt. So it's it's a double edged sword he can only go so long. You know and and that's just part of life. Texas. Is re doing some of the banking here kudzu like a Vegas esque. Rebuild whether they're adding some bacon one side and keep its name the other. And do some changes to a foot. You know life goes on I mean that's that's part of progress and things have to keep moving in a bomb that two of our what I feel are far better. Age race tracks are getting repaid foot. Hopefully missions were circling around soon you know Kansas started coming down pretty good Vegas of course would be paid like seven years ago so it's. Come round grade so. If that the tracks that were read papers start to come around and Waltz takes so it's Friday let's talk about your Daytona 500 that's coming up you attempting it with. This is a brand new team right mark beard off marks our brand can use either attempt to some races over the last. Once years here and there I'm old are good driver mark feared. And Billy Castro form a bunch over the years. And just a very nice man came about through. And you know Jake called me at the off season says hey and I and I and Jay knows Jane knows me pretty well Mike Jay is hold on before you say no. And they'll side I spoke to mr. beard and he has EC our motors and when I see young voters he has really see our voters like Nicole Richie Gilmore called the shop for a sit guesses ahead. Don't hold on. We got some fifteen year old nun and all they he's got real motors and am what I talked to Richie he goes from applicable more real you know make sure we got everybody oughta know I mean. So it it worked well for mr. Beers and on their because. He's our course and I have a great relationship. The car is an old Richard Childress racing Chevrolet this wonderful looking family than you used the last couple years. Had a great run last year with the Michael McDowell and in the Daytona. And and feared bought it. And if we got one car is not like his backup car it's not like there's. You know it we're we're a little team that has created mode over Billy get my RC are picking someone had a great pit crew. You know and and filled it worked out well for both of us he gets some advantages to having me in the car. I get a chance to run the Daytona 500. And as we don't know that raised relies a lot on horsepower so I feel very confident that we should go qualify for the show and really. Everyone calls it a wildcard I mean this isn't really a chance he could run well let's listen. Anybody can win the Daytona man and the Daytona things happen it's awesome and so vessel if you thought left place more short for one race deal. That and more fear stop this he used to trap to try to go to Richmond and mark and all these places and Jake talked with a super speed ways instead look. If you buy good motors and get one good car great things can happen. And so you know I feel like I'm really that there had I'm coming off four straight top five on the different places and it's been an. And I feel great going there. Anything can happen at a place like that I've got a lot of friends in the sport so I know that I'm not going to be and I got some teammates at least and we have a when you have a good motor. That also helps increase the number of people don't wanna work with you so. They know me I know VCR motor I got the boy's time off of there I got Ryan and Paula so I know that he molded up my teammates. At least you know I got some friends. That's my friends is Brendan gone we wish him the best in this year's running. Of the Daytona 500 our thanks to Martin Truex junior also our thanks to Ty Dillon chase Eliot. Dale Earnhardt junior Brendan on end the entire MR and crude next week gonna previewed that clash at Daytona my friend's speed weeks. Is just around the corner.
