Get what you need what you needed Granger for the ones who get it done and five Hercules tires ride on our street. From the Outback Steakhouse in Daytona Beach, Florida here is your host Mike Bagley. Hello everybody left with another as the NASCAR line. We are at the Outback Steakhouse itself out of work toward Daytona International Speedway. And we've got quite a show for you tonight what have. Joseph Moore just regal Rusty Wallace anchors of the motor racing network and of course. Vice chairman Mike Helton joins us in person tonight as well Mike welcome to the show thank you great studio you can tell you that you pick any better that. Appetizers and golf on the radio with sustainable business unit yes that is as a good way to celebrate Buick it is and it we had a great kick off on Sunday had the Advance Auto Parts clash and we ran the front row for the 500. In a nutshell and in general your take from the sanctioning bodies view about what will happen. And here over the weekend. Well it was unfortunate we had to wait till Sunday morning and deceive the question told the mother nature does it to us on occasion that. I think what we solid class was typical of that event. With the the representation and equality have it to get a good idea. And I think the drivers use that and to figure out. What might happen. You're in the rest to speed weeks. And then so that's what we saw and then move him back and forth and and Grafton and and be unable to run by yourself or make moves by yourself side graft and if felt like a little bit of old school racing out there to meet mr. Mike there's a lot of talk about. At that time that race was wrong and I know it was a supposed to be run on the Sunday but it was run on Sunday. In the drivers might talk to we're pretty pleased with that because they say look we are will run this race the same time or get restarted the Daytona 500. And they've really thought that was a great practice session has NASCAR ever thought about maybe runner and a Sunday afternoon clashes at a Saturday night. Yeah and it may have moves around and obviously Daytona International Speedway to new player in all this and their schedule and and what they won't do the broadcast partners and everybody influences those cared tools and and so we moved him around we used to run the clash on Sunday afternoon gave all finals Saturday and and and flash on Sunday so we switched and ram. And I don't you know sometimes it feels good to go back and do something used to do because you're used to it. And and that but you know we'll look at what the future holds that. But that model where we run the clash and unqualified and everything is something we've worked out with the speed ways. And fox and in others and and and and we also listen to the fans and there were some fans it's that I mean and I liked. Watch in the race on Sunday. Because they were there for qualified and and they got to see the Busch clash too they stayed over and came back in. It's all of bland and that's on NASCAR's racetracks to get all that together to make it come out. If you're talking about a collaborative effort obviously between the tracks NASCAR broadcast partners. And that's have been heard a lot of lately whether it's breaks formats whether it's other policies and procedures what's that what's the what's the line like now what's the process like now of collaboration with everybody but just wait used to be back in the day. Now that's it's it's different it's it's a new world this is 2017. As opposed to a 1977. So it it is a new world for us in in what we have learned is that. Dylan with me every player in this sport that has those specific. Bucket responsibility. And talking things out and come enough width with programs together. Is better then they'd be wave we needed to do it back forty years ago. So today's world of collaboration and being transparent with each other and annaly and things out on the table and discuss and I am openly. Is is the way we do it today in Atlanta the format that does stages. Was was Steve O'Donnell did a wonderful job of Poland. Different groups together car owners drivers. Of broadcast partners racetracks. To where they had very spirited conversations. About all kinds of different topics. To come in to hone in on the one that we announced. And and that's why you saw the announcement at Steve layup with. With a different. Groups of participants in the sport. Because they all have a role in in deciding what we were going to do and and that product comes out better. When you take that and you win the fans' opinions in on it. But that product we've learned now comes out quicker better cleaner so that the proof will be in the Clinton when he gets on the racetrack but so far so good. Mike there's a lot of conversation about Hendrick Motorsports now being on the front row for the Daytona 500 chase Elliott. This is two years in a row now grab the pole for the Daytona 500 and at what about the YouTube and how he is healthy and in April it. That it's great and and and we're sitting here and there and I remember when you show them how they apparently. I thought about it. I. But but on the flip side it but I also remember when you said look guys have had a great career and I'm on the stop driving. That's a cycle that NASCAR went for. When mr. Ian Dale Jarrett and Terry Rabbani Bob who might that Aaron decided that they're driving career in this sport. Was done and some were beginning to see a transition again but chase Elliott is the face of that next generation right now run Bellini. Daniel swore is certainly is going to be a contender romance. In so chases me in on the front row of the Daytona 500. Helps that generation get attention and it (%expletive) coming up. More with Mike Helton NASCAR hall of Famer Rusty Wallace. Plus Joseph Moore and jet streak will join us later as well. AutoZone presents. Peak performance and maximizing fuel economy into life and overall performance. Keep track of all of it at a RE dot com and all of us also download the Amare and that. Keep up to date with the happenings in the world of NASCAR you know rested for the break you're talking about Danica commit that they're winning the pole chase Kelly and his successes. This racetrack in this race had to Tennessee. To write the robot story line. That Mexico be Dale Earnhardt junior he had he has a tendency to win big races. After big events and had a solid back to 9/11 it over it goes back to him coming back here in July actor's father passed away. Any comment about it earlier today and said. This has all its pointing in the right direction where to start on the outside of the front. Roll on Sunday yeah ivy and what I watched with Eleanor Jean the day after qualified on the front row for the Daytona 500 in a vehement said. What do you think dale he said I'm upset I don't like the fact and I wanted to be part of I would have thought that even. They get back you know from this concussion here at Daytona. And he's darned glad to be in the front row but he was glad he won that all this he was so close it was unreal. I mean he can't win this 500 you know there's no doubt about that he's the only one that knows what he personally feels like that. From everything I've seen so far it looks like he sees it the old dale in what is that Dale Earnhardt junior effect. On this board in your opinion might. Well we're proud of all over Europe's. There in Dayton throughout our history on occasion you've had rappers that fans. Can really relate to that. And I think NASCAR fans really relate to Dale Junior so obviously. His voice his performance on the racetrack can be and in the race and not in the race Paul has an impact on our sport to do junior BM back. In 2017. And then mistress to see it coming back with with that spirit and that. Purpose. And even settling for second is not in his agenda right now be in first is what he wants to be I think it's a good thing for NASCAR. My last night was a huge night for the industry right here at Daytona Beach it was the Betty Jane France memorial poker turn. And last night I heard well I didn't hear it know for a fact that. The goal was to get to 250000. Dollars in money raise last night the industry came together raced 300. At 121000 dollars last night in bed can't. France's name it was a big big deal. I was very few words there. And what did you feel. It was a it was a it was a good feel it was a big night. That is most fans remember we lost Betty Jane. Last August 29. And this was the first poker tournament without her and she loved. To play poker. Real she had a group here in town of ladies that played routinely. And they just love the game. And so last night was I think gave a significant. Moment for us to celebrate. Both the impact of Betty Jane has had on this sport but maybe more importantly what they retain his hand. That her impact on this community. Daytona Beach pollution county. We was at Emory riddle university. Across the street from the speedway. And so all those elements wind that destroyed in the people that were intended in attendance last night. We're grateful land of industry folks have been detained touched. But maybe more importantly the community folks here in Daytona Beach that that benefited from bill France and maybe changed impact on this community. And it all came together last night it was great fun whole lot of rib and and in part play and and and tricks and in games and no this I walked out it was so fun spirited and I'm very. The great opportunity for the NASCAR foundation and pediatrics. At Halifax medical here in Daytona. But it was a great tribute to video game. What a wonderful night you know. Nothing on my remind people that Jean Fran techies started the NASCAR foundation. 2006. Her whole goal was to benefit children everything going on with NASCAR foundation is all about the kids. And that is a whole lot of money race last night so we are all real proud and excited so I'm sure there's a big effect a lot of water cooler talk today about a last night's event. Janet. Rusty Wallace NASCAR hall of Famer and also NASCAR vice chairman. Mike Helton as we go through speed weeks we're going to be dusting off new race formats you talked a lot about formats. In the offseason you and you said that it was a collaborative effort lot of folks came together lot of folks bought it we're at the idea start a lot of fans out there like. You're taking my 500 mile race in my 400 mile race and now you're cut it up in the slabs where the the idea first come from. I think. Gives distant Youkilis have conversations that may have been had for the last ten years really yeah I mean it's it's you know would there's always in poet. From fans and from people in the industry. Toward NASCAR about why don't we Travis want to do that some of the best ideas we've. Had in our sport come from drivers Balkan in the dollar saying hey we ever thought about doing something like this. So I think the Nicholas of the although the results of the announcement came from conversations. That that have been in the sport. Maybe for a decade but it was very specifically from an effort to Steve O'Donnell championed. With people in the sport to talk about. They this is 2017. Are fans are telling us that they'd like the traditional. NASCAR race but they want it to be chance here. And oh by the way they also won't put drivers. To be rewarded. More during the race than just at the end of the race. And and so that came together. To kind of create the conversation and dialogue about okay how do you accomplish so. And through several meetings several hours with a lot of people involved Steve was able to pool that group together. And come up with a stages which I think are very well thought out and and the drivers in the racetracks and team owners that were involved in that. Who had their own ideas that didn't make the cut sort of speak. You didn't understand why. And and so we come together as a group. To go out there and and to perform. And to race and then the drivers if it rewards and results. We're talking about a lot of new things happening here I mean that the format changes the young movement and all that but. Daytona International Speedway itself what's happened in things going on in a what I liked the future opinion on. Is that Brian. Motorsports hall fable of America that's now located at the Daytona International Speedway it was up in Detroit Michigan. And it it it it talks with it inside that hall of things Mike. It's got to rake cars it's got votes it's got stock cars Indy cars all the some voters were to represented. At right now for the first time. It's at the Daytona International Speedway all on display. In the last week was the official ribbon cutting. In the ceremony to kick this thing off and I don't know what everybody thinks. But I went there in it is absolutely beautiful inside it's got some of course machines. Hurley hate words warning for our win road race cars in error chipped it as easy IndyCar is in there we feel Lotto. Cars so what's your opinion what looks like my. I think it's great because the you know. So officially from the NASCAR angle this is the birthplace of NASCAR's Daytona Beach Ormond Beach this area was the birthplace in NASCAR. Dale Senior had the foresight to move the racing from the beach. Out here to Daytona International Speedway. That was of Lotto and long time ago 69 years ago today NASCAR's found in so so. What what is really great is the family and International Speedway corporation's commitment to the sport to do all the work it to speed work. And to do the development across the speedway that will be known as one Daytona. But you've Boeing ended tradition you blend history and with. And and the the the building that the museum is now in is the focus point for those. Who used the facility for the rest of your through the tours and and they'll be able to come now and see motorsports history. Blended in with the NASCAR history to Bloomberg that went down the that the system speed record on the beach. Some of the focal. Points of the history of NASCAR. But now it's blended in my trusty stead with drag cars and airplanes and motorcycles and sports cars. And all the famous names that anybody in motorsports recognize. And and some lane kind of may be wonder why they recognize those things now they can go see for themselves. A spectacular facility and if you're in the Daytona Beach area you can check it out as you check out the rest of speed weeks two thousand seventies. More from the outback they comic coming up. Other racing season. We got the seventeenth season get ready to fire off that you're here. The event to speed weeks 2017. Re here on the motor racing network. Mike Helton is with us NASCAR vice chairman Rusty Wallace is here and also Joseph Moore Jeff street will be joining us. In moments lot of changes in the offseason we discussed might one of those most recently. Being about the vehicle damage repair policy that took a lot of people by surprise and it seemed to be. In some folks' eyes a bold move a whole process or penalty or procedure. Is it in fact that and where did that start from as well. Well it it may appear to be Boldin and inaction and that's fair that the topic. Again it's another one of them was Genesis the garage area actually and look if NASCAR had a policy that that told me once I was involved in an accident in the car reached a certain. Condition and I don't really wanna go back out there but I feel like I need to have to enforced in the safety factor of a car that may be damaged accused of garage area. And still got parts and pieces coming off of influence coming out of it. Things that we would regulate them we might not necessarily catch it. And so for some time we've had a dialogue about why don't tedious not let us go back and make us not go back there. The calls. They're the ones who are still in the race. We feel bad about may be jeopardizing the rest of their race or calls and something else that happens the calls are cars now that we're going to. So that dialogue related to the damage policies that we announced for 2017. And again I think it's something that was done with the right groups in the in the sport. And well thought out well talked about and come out with very good. Moment I would spot the reason you changed it because the driver gets in Iraq he's generally miserable. And he just wants to go home early. So that gives an excuse coaching I think I'd like I'd like half. I beat the crap again and their lack of hard evidence that it fits it to it makes for a whole lot safer environment out of absolutely whose day it just wasn't. And along with that the additional steps that we've added for being checked out at the care center. Thank all of these come together to make our sport. In and we're always on the topic but making it as safe as we can for fans and who's been participants in the sport so. I think the damage policy the additional steps that we've got to be clear about what doctors for confessions and different. That the technology that's available today in the and the specialists. That that we have at the racetracks to AMR the track provided medical. It is so much better today and so we had the steps along the way as we get to that level to make sure we do it. You talk about the safety initiative in this sport and what you said we often see here at the racetrack. But there's a lot of work goes on backing concorde at the art the senate that a lot honestly don't know about and describe the work that goes on there the efforts that go on there that are on going before we even see them read and hear about the near the racetrack at that would. Related to NASCAR. Before they aren't decent teams were probably better prepared than we work. Now with the R&D center in the years that we've had up they're developing. And he knew engineers dating technology. Computers and and McCain has been in all the different things that. The teams may have been a little bit ahead of us now. We kind of called up and collectively. We're all working on these projects together but the winning R&D center first opened up its main primary focus. And it still is today is safety. Seats seat belts trains whales. A structures that box I don't care what it is on the race car the folks at the R&D center have a fast. Knowledge. Of that car and what it can do to sustain an accident and protect the participant in it and then you go past that and you talk about. Maintain and a balanced level competition on the on the racetrack. And and so all of those were very proud of what they aren't the sinner does but you're right it's a hidden GM said in a fairness there's. People working 24 hours a day seven days a week on planes with race teams and that and the automobile manufacturers in the sport to make it safer. And to make it more competitive. Mike I think we've covered. A lot of things that there's no doubt about that matters one thing that we haven't talked about yet that is really important. In my opinions and make it means to an agreement to stand still while. That's a better look it showed me in this is the big aerodynamic change that is gonna happen after we leave Daytona. Now just bring your party up to speed at Daytona this year we're back and have it the aerodynamic changes whatsoever. Although there's been some mechanical changes the roof patch is something that's mandatory now that out there's a wreck the drivers got the roof on this thing is the foot box area. That's been brought on for safety here at Daytona. And the other thing as we all know. These crew chiefs are really Smart guys so you get one set of rules that it'll forgot how to make their cargo little quicker. So NASCAR saw that in this time for the 500. The restrictor plate a little bit smaller. There's been three changes for the Daytona 500. Vs last year aerodynamics not one out. But what we believe here. We hit the next race a much shorter smaller and shorter front splitter a lot less downforce almost 600 pounds less downforce. A little bit different Tyre. And what on the years and one out experience in the past those cars should start slip and slide around and the drivers get up on the wheel and I personally think. We're gonna see much better racing because of that what is your opinion. Well it did not think he summed it up pretty well so what do what it what we've done is again reacted to the garage here into the things. And Roger told us for the last couple years. That the race car drivers and Al wanna be race car. How long I'm probable my role in this race. To be important. And then this car is too easy to drop. With a mallet down ports that handle so we took a step last year just Tennessee. While we were working on a bigger step in 2015. Is that because step. And so accountable down a lot of technology and a lot of engineering terminology you can use to explain a bit rusty right it comes down to the smaller splitter. Reaction in front and a smaller split I mean this was all over in the back which is old school race. And that takes down force out the car and it gives the car to the racer the dropper. To perform on the racetrack and that's what. In particular that's politicos the higher those elbows him and I had a great ads are right that you spoke minutes ago curious minds wanna know. Did you ever have to call rusty to the caller ray thing. Had a conversation go. Yes. Hot. And what we do in a Holler state and a fair enough fair enough that's right at the that's NASCAR vice chairman Mike got to thank you so much for joining us my. The celebrate the return of flew in Monday. And more coming up on that in a moment. Jeff street Joseph Moore joined Rusty Wallace and myself was have you. Dug into the through that area we're waiting. Outback special next that's just straight on an episode yes bush what do you think speed makes 2017. So far it's finally here. Yes and now it seem like or ever report it actually kicked off in not we got here last week. We practiced that we practiced we practiced that I didn't you Greg east. And it was fun the clash was really exciting. Albeit a day late. But it is worth the wait but it was a dollar store there was not a dollar short nosed good rusty we had a lot of fun you know we thought we might get it in. On time on Saturday night or a little bit behind time but we thought we're gonna get it in on Saturday night do it under the lights. We did not we came back and ran it on Sunday and I think you know we're just talking author a bit of a surprise because we really expected. The boards to perform well and while they did ultimately go to Victory Lane. By the time we got to qualifying on Sunday all of a sudden we saw Chevrolet is coming to the top and maybe a bit of a super. Rise up from me it was a a surprise because we sat there practiced for four hours it was one of the longest practice sessions. That I've been involved in a long long time as a force all our practice and the entire four hours what we saw Paul. Was the Fords up front basically the entire time. And the Chevrolet is I think the best I got our own you know if they're sixers confidence but it does seem accurate there's so when that. What poll qualify as over Arkansas and that I was surprised it's Chevrolet in the front row we get support for so dom now. We did see the four whiplash. We've seen him win the race that that's one thing but. There was a lot of teams they've and a target those forwards they're fast they're gonna get this and all that's that would then. Like we solved Chevrolet capital whether that happened Ford's dominate in practice. And don't really turn up as well as they did it practicing qualifying it's almost like they. Turn the whole run and turn it upside down it shook it up when they're there's certain honestly you could do for qualified. And to me it was obvious yet to Chevrolet guys they Hendrick guys in. Particular didn't show they're total ban on me you could block there but the car at 100% qualifying mode. And that's what a lot of the teams did but it appeared to me that that the Hendrick guys put their cars in 95%. Qualifying about it when it comes time to really lay that number down to go for it they put it all in and then it maybe turn the wick up and got the front row so lot. That was one thing but I will take capture their scratching your head a little bit about how strong the four were in the clash. Well you know we we saw the practice for the clash on Friday. We saw a lot of drafting practice by the force and a lot of drafting practice by the Toyota's not a whole lot of machetes looked up and worked on that. They work about single car runs even better early apparently. And it and it proved to be that it's sacred to get in the front row for the Daytona 500. But you know look at the Toyota's what they did the clash they dominated up until the end with a four chased them down and of course the contact that led to Chile picking up the victory. Some think and that you know the chevys may have a little bit of an edge all the single car runs. But maybe the fortune Toyota's are concentrating on drafting which lets face it is the key to winning at Daytona and. And I would agree with that I'll tell you one other thing that was surprising to me is after that four hour single car practice session that we saw on Saturday. Chase Elliott if I'm not mistaken was no better than 21. In Dale Earnhardt junior was no better than fifteen. So now all of a sudden you fast forward you've got to put down their big number and all of a sudden bang they're 12 so were they holding back or not. Hard to tell but I guess we'll all find out together on Sunday we will. We were deadly fire that surprised me from the clash on Sunday Hendrick Motorsports really wasn't a factor to have a lot Chevrolet teams that were a factor to the extent of some that Toyota's. And the forest and all of a sudden in qualifying for the 500 it's fair leads one to believe. Will they be they're on Sunday in the 500. Well. I'm a talk about one driver when you say partly Hendrick guys that I think will be there to 500 Jimmie Johnson talked about surprises. The biggest surprise I see all week long was clash out of Jimmie Johnson on hearing is a seven time champion. He completely spent a car out all by himself and darn near saint spot twice if all of that second time destroys the car. It Jimmy's like man I don't know what's going on this car is handling great it feels good but at this certain spot on the exit or turn for this babies takes one lead me. Is so I mean I would bet. That you had to mask Jimmy Johnson a lot of those Hendrick engineers are going what in the world is happening here because this is our champion this is our seven time champ. This guy knows how to get it done but this guy just on a car out twice by itself. Well remember last year the Daytona 500 bats were case Elliot lost it coming off turn four and regular reader lost it coming off turn four. I mean I don't know if there's a problem but that Hillary can't turn four. Or could it be that they are experimenting with a ragged edge they're trying to get the most they can't get off turn four. And maybe pushing a little too far others think I'll want to get your car freed up as much as he possibly can't you know you you wouldn't lose as little bit at mount RPM. In the senator recorders you possibly can't keep their car really. Where Infrant fast if you take a car tightened up. They've kind of bought the car down this course is not good comfortable feel and it's a lot of bike sometimes that extra car a little slower. It was obvious to me that Jimmie Johnson's car. Didn't have what we call side by it had no side by the carpet just stink it up on top or racetrack kind of skittish I really wonder. As that race was going on and Jimmy was worked at that track bar you could do gap from inside the car. I was one of these workers that track are trying to lower that right side get get side by. Are this that this just pop up and surprise him. And he did he didn't get an opportunity. To try to tighten their car up with a mechanical stuff they have from inside the cars up. That's a big question mark on when asked them that when I see him here next couple days and nasty that say about that more coming up but rusty Joseph and Jack. Hello this economic. Back to Mike Bagley on the back Outback Steakhouse muttering yeah NASCAR live. Seven feet. We are right outside. Turn four here at Daytona International Speedway rusty when you are racing what was the fine line is that the balance like of one to go out get a good starting spot. Vs not want to put our defense to put in a position to be put in defense well I mean yeah I'd be really Smart there's no doubt about that because you have the clash far. That was a complete different car. Then the car you rent a 150 and the when you're in the Daytona 500 slain car so you for sure it when a terror up your 150 car that's for sure but. In my opinion of me in the united Japanese Joseph talked of this ad nauseam about my opinion on the clash in the 150s in the 500. I want to run all those races I needed that clash for practice in a bike in our car right think clash. I have another shot at 150 exactly like Jimmie Johnson. Johnson did not even get close to happiness are right it in the clash he's relying on the 150s it is our right now. For the Daytona 500. So I always use that one if he has a really good practice to get me to go up. For the Daytona 500 the races the third the only thing different now. Is that thirsty is going to be a night race. The Daytona 500 is a day race although the drivers now have to clash under their belt which was a day race. And it did start exactly the same time basically that the Daytona 500 students start. So I'll look at the clash onlookers at 500 compared notes right now. Lot of concern about that 150 B and run at night because it's gonna probably cover up some might ill handling race car I got in the states. Well I explained to us so we've run during the day. What's the effect running it night what's the effect what's the difference between the two for the race and it'll stretch there that has no idea these two guys right here he played yesterday he was not gonna tell you what we saw in the class. We saw drivers make it about. Seventeenth at twenty laps and also under slipped but it slide their movement all over. Now if that would have been at night race you witness saw any car move at all the evidence so cooked up. Because attract temperatures cool there's no sun beat on it. But when that sun comes out search shattered attracting starts sliding all over the place and that's what we're gonna see in the Daytona 500. That's one of the raises what I saw in the clash I think we're gonna see a really cool Daytona 500 if I know. After about twenty laps are gonna be all over the place. I agree it was a great race Jeff and Joseph your opinion should be doing more date racing or night racing here at Daytona how can really. I like death. As Mike still here you're a I think it also left hook up I'm not I don't know I think can. All of us have grown up. Love and short track Saturday night racing under the lights so part of me says a wanna do that but there was always something special. About the hit him dual being run on Thursday afternoon. It always seemed like Joseph that that was the best day of all the speed weeks weather wise it's supposed to be very good again on Thursday. So I don't know like I I tend to kind of think that. That I liked the way it was we run the Kunin duel on Thursday we know we're coming back on Friday night to watch the truck opener. We come back on Saturday afternoon to watch the expert that he series kick off their season what he thinks. I thought I like that daytime races here because of what rusty just talked about. It makes more of a job for everybody making these cars hold on they're gonna slip and slide early and that's what makes racing fun. You can overcome and on the elevator together they have to do in the clash. Jeff Gordon was not in the elevator with dish it out or actually Saturday night and it rained out. Any sent yeah the clash of the daytime but the way it's supposed to be at the yup. And I think that's what everybody loves think about the fourth of July races used to be we come down and start him at 11 o'clock in the morning. You know and the hot part of July as hot as you can possibly get cars slipping and sliding all over the place it may for some very exciting race. I just like being in the grandstands and in the senate Daytona in eighty degrees and about shovel snow back home and up up up and you have been out here at night. Even though we are in Daytona Beach, Florida. Where it's been just a little on the chilly side I think yeah 88 layers deep Cilic that. Are out back with rusty snow and yeah. From Daytona Beach, Florida this news NASCAR alive. Back to Mike Bagley. Born here Daytona International Speedway. Mike Bagley Rusty Wallace Joseph Moore and Jeff street go with you as we counted on to the 59 running of the Daytona 500 let's give a shout to our friends here at outback steak out they don't add up when you walk in the door and well how. For details can have dole coming up Thursday here at Daytona chase Elliott and Brad Kozlowski will leave the field to the green flag in the first race. Dale Earnhardt junior and Clint Boyer will lead the field to the green flag for the second race and we hear applause in the distance I mentioned Dale Earnhardt junior's name. We asked Mike Helton about it lies you guys as well how important is it for Dale Junior to be healthy and back inside operates car. I huge. Junior nation is so big I mean let's face it how many people think of mile street and say oh your race fan who's your favorite. Let me guess but it's always Dale Earnhardt junior fans love him he's great for the sport nobody carries that name everyone wants to see junior win. And mostly when a championship maybe this is the Jiri can do it. I I totally agree DOJ yours just he's a cool guy we've got that we had a habit last year Talladega. You know for the broadcast that he was so excited yet there witness. Talking about the cars and watch them. He said and I I I wanna be in the car but there's really cool looking down. See what these cars look like from a different perspective but he's excited about it acted earlier were talking. Where they interviewed him after the qualifying was over he was upset that he was second. I would have thought that guy was out collier along with a concussion that doggone glad to be back yet. Italy and on the front row it's okay that night he was bad that he didn't get the ball so he's part upgrade ago. Well and I think the other thing that we have with him starting up front if we get through the the candy and you'll keep that part one piece you gonna have. Dale and chase on the front row so that means it's a pretty good chance receipt junior leading the Daytona 500 earlier than later. That means a lot of things and its excitement in the stands it means ratings for TV and radio all of the things that are good for the sport. And you have the unique opportunity if we go back to the NASCAR crews. You were able to sit down with him one on one for better part of a half hour I was able to sit there are kind of eaves dropping in on their conversation. We talk about him being excited to come back the fans are excited to have him come back dale junior's just flat excited to beat back two weeks ago we gave some. Can't comment here on NASCAR live that and I ask you what the motivation was to get back at seven race car he's married to beautiful lady with Amy. He's got all the money could possibly mean he's got all the toys take you possibly have what is the motivation for getting back in the race car. And his answer was basically I just like to race I just one race and it don't want. My career and on anyone else's terms but mine are rusty there's a lot to be set for that there is when you do what you do. Said when he said that I mean he got all the stuff right and all things all the stuff. But he's just a racer just wants a racist if somebody says that repeated to me. I know they still got does the bird in her heart to want to drive they haven't got to the the burnout zone yet which most all drivers get to the burnout so. OK I mean you see Jeff Gordon got the burnout and I got that burnout zone that Carl Edwards got to burn out zone and has not happened yet that. Dale Junior so that's good thing is a good thing and it's good to have him back on Sunday course Hendrick Motorsports on the front row for the 500. Switching the conversation to more of an organizational perspective. In the offseason we saw Stewart Haas racing go to fort. We saw Roush Fenway scale back to two cars. Hendrick motor sports stance pat except they get Dale Earnhardt junior back. Where do you put Hendrick in the overall organizational landscape about if you were to rank the organizations right now we're at Hendrick Motorsports be on the scale joked. I would say third popular up elect Stewart. Haas racing is going to be the team of the 2017 season. Joseph Gibbs racing who was the team of the 2016 season up like a false second of them I applaud Hendrick and third I go for yeah. I think I think he's got to look at until you can beat the toyotas and a week in and week out basis their number one. I think you've got to look at team Penske with the got only Kozlowski is being number two. And here's where I struggle because I can go Hendrick is loads five even though you've got furniture row which essentially is a brand new. Two car team if you don't have Truex up there in your top three I think you're missing something. Then you've got Stewart Haas. Which we just don't know where they're gonna fall so you know when you're look at it you're gonna have to beat out there. Those three teams come to mind as you just can't sleep Truex. On the sidelines. Actel guy I've I'm not gonna get scrutiny guys are really think that right now. The top team up there you you do have to look at the Joseph Gibbs racing guys number two for me personally is a solid team Penske I'm not Lugar router all right at those. That two car team is Roger Penske told me so I like to cars I can ultimately focus on two cars it's much harder for me to focus on four. Then it is too I liked this two part thing. So to me they can be almost be messed around with the delete key so but let's say Gibbs let's say you know team Penske. And a question mark I had for the guys Hendrick is. There's no doubt in my mind that right now the lead guy in the campus deathly Jimmie Johnson he's just been to win the championship. Dale Junior really good but he's been out for almost half a year hot I was gonna take him to be back in the game. Would you leave date told we will go to that not restricted plate track where your all over the place I hope he's there we know Casey hated struggled big time. And we know that chases it. So and by the time we get to California the may have won the first five races. Bottom to make us look man I can that would have tied it makes it's out of all this but I'd be just about the time that happens the they come out make it happen. From Daytona Beach, Florida this news. NASCAR live now back to Mike Bagley head football and NASCAR live here. They can't. In Daytona Beach, Florida shouted out that I was Rusty Wallace Joseph Moore and gesturing go I boys I'd rather read American race on Sunday we got Joseph. Just like that yet warmup no we're not when he got to go Denny Hamlin he did it last year he's always run well he was great on all the restrictor plate last year. Danny was bombing. I'm gonna go to Q car. I got to. Source you know I got to knock it too far because I drive it. Are hopeful obviously that you know Parker thought watch it to our blasts through the feel that the clash of the the brawn. And not to let him Denny Hamlin would get together on different story that part I don't want them. Race they were looking at my notes Mikey would be a coin toss between the eleven or is that too they are the two best restrictor plate drivers that we have right now. Brad Kozlowski Denny Hamlin they showed what they could do it the clashes that are gonna show what they can do again in the Daytona 500 best man wins coming to the strike I think it's going to be a Penske car. It will be either brackets last year to with a gun they have won six. Of the nine last restrictor plate races that's pretty stout right there that's a good pick plus got that Doug Yates horsepower underneath the hood you know it. That's that's pretty tough to bet against Doug Yates horsepower mean my god look what that guy's on he's took on Stewart Haas racing now all those engines and they're just flat it. Get it done here Daytona they've won the clash in Ford Motor Co. under the lead the league of delegates with injured company. At one of the 24 hours a day on Internet brand new. Too bad that about GT 48 at fort built not only keep building NASCAR motors he's built those road road race motors and he's been a winner everything in itself. The Ford motor company of those images of forget it. No it's gonna keep that from happening rusty Wallace's when the four Joseph Gibbs toyotas hooked up which grew lax. We have seen it time and time again we saw on the clash salt Lester to Daytona 500. You get those four or five toyotas hooked up on the bottom of the racetrack you'll take a bomb to move them. Yes so we saw Sunday though they had before it gets Toyota's lined up at the bottom. But then here come those pesky guys just have to wait one at a time one at a time. How well will the more drivers with the four brand new Stewart Haas. Ford drivers work together with team Penske and Roush and everybody else if they do that port will be tough to beat but Joseph Gibbs has got it down work and for that right. August at five cars back in six because you got Eric Jones and mixes well I think he's going to be. Very very good year this season. And speaking about the rookie classless I give them a shell that's going to be a great year we talked last year about it be in the best rookie class in twenty years. With that case Elliot and Ryan Clady about this year with five Dylan and Eric Jones and up. It is more be able to it. At it again and again that a little white McCarty. That's going to be fun and our coverage begins obviously with the Daytona 500 Sunday. Be certitude in the motor racing network.
