Please you NASCAR Lauren. Back to your holes Mike Bagley. Welcome back to NASCAR lives down 2016. In the motor racing network staff. In the building tonight. And if we bring and well my turn brother from another mother they melodies and a house votes on our event are you doing good hard to believe we got another racing season in the books who survived a novel and it went survived another one and this struck by like and don't froze to death no sweated at all puddle a glob it was a wild summer yet ambulance got lost the biggest. Hit a couple of them. What's done in any wasn't just historic 2016 had to throw out. I think at the end of the day it's got to be Jimmie winning his seventh I mean it's only been done twice in the history of the world. Until next year when maybe he just wins his eighth and the seventh becomes all that. Net all out on important but. They're there were a lot of stories a lot of stories from me I am I remember the season at large degree. As a year that we we took a major positive step in terms of the caliber of the competition. We didn't hear you hear it as much as I hear. And we didn't hear a lot of grousing about no passing single file racing aero push were ever gonna get. Completely completely away from it we heard a lot less about it. What are the interest in things for me. Was we watched a shift. In that competition that talked about Joseph Gibbs racing started out first half the season then and they went into a little mini me lays amusing air quotes. And Andy had Penske stepped forward to handle Stewart Haas stepped forward. And then as we got to the end of the year surprise surprise here comes at Hendrick bunch and yet not necessarily out of the blue they come swing and then there. We had a lot of different organizations. Take the leadership role in my opinion and I. And I love that too because app mid season it was all about well. Will will Joseph Gibbs spoke or four cars or homes well will they just sweep the top four. Nobody can beat him who will try to finish fifth bind before Joseph Gibbs cars. And and not think this season proved it's as if we needed anymore proof. That the only thing harder than getting to the top of the mountain in this premier series anymore is staying. At the top of the mound I mean Jimmie and Chad were downright ordinary for about two thirds of this season I mean down right. Get out of walk ordinary. And then all of a sudden you know they just they burn the Midnight Oil court demonstrates they probably burned some two and 3 AM oil. And they got themselves caught up and look what happened. At the end well as you know and I know this is not a nine to five game it's all about how much time you spend and how much money you spend and well lord knows they have enough of those their Hendrick and ought not to miss this game. All totally and it's not about how much money we spend it on avenue if it it's just amazing though when when you look at Hendrick Motorsports. And a LE strike at the right time. And when they strike it's it's a lot of a lot of bought in a lot of work has gone into that and it's almost depressive just to sit back and look at him go. Wallace and I think. Maybe at long last. Jimmie Johnson gets his due as a driver because for me and the decisive moment of this championship the decisive moment at home. Was when Jimmie Johnson. Restarted against Kyle Larson Baltimore all the marbles are programs. Kyle Larson I think. While accounts probably had the better car. Kyle Larson by all accounts had the better line right up there next to the outs outside retaining wall or eat whole momentum. When Jimmie Johnson took a car that wasn't quite as. And a line that wasn't quite as good. And around the way. The man behind the wheel made the difference in what would we be talking about him being championed. If all hell Coke will no doubt are almost certainly not. What about you would have been a very competent but but. You know a remarkable six or seven. Had not been for the big melee at the end what she get a big time professional stock car racing when it comes down to. I need to pass year to win this championship you need to prevent me from passing you to win this championship. And and we get into a testosterone measuring contests. Sometimes I lose sometimes you lose a sometimes we lose which is exactly. Well and you when you look at that wreck with the GO Ian Carl and and then what the just the chain of events and that it stopped you had. That restart with an ounce bottle in there at Miami. And it just doesn't total teams into that's why we've run. 400 miles we run 400 miles not 397 and a half miles that's why the guys that today. It wasn't a good race so I quit half way. Don't get any sympathy out of me if you quit halfway whatever you may see as your own darn fault and man if you clip with fifteen to go at homestead. Human soap and respect. What do you make about the monster energy now being the sponsor of the premier series I'm really looking forward to I've. I can't wait to see. What they've got up their sleeve I can't wait to see what they have in mind to try and energize this deal. God bless spread and they were wonderful sponsor they were wonderful for this sport for many many years. We also knew a couple of years ago that they were the most. They knew a couple of years ago but they work on Wednesday. I don't think there was any pull back on their promotional effort but there was also not a lot of what we do different what can we do know because. They're tenure was limited. Monster at this point I think comes in with a hole. New idea. White sheet of paper start from scratch and their attitude is not why can't we do it it's like. Why can't we you know what why can't we tried something well. The interesting thing will just hearing here Brian Brian France talk about it and he he really emphasized fallen and edgy. I think we're turning a page here where we were with our RJ Reynolds and then we are with Nextel and sprint and then now we're come into the monster energy portion. I see this is being a great opportunity to reach out and grab newer fans younger fans. But doing it a different way. Doing it and with different methods and and ultimately. Putting fun back in this. We'll deal the same time you know back only started before you an hour or that this sport was based on this sport was. Slightly shady slightly edgy not necessarily the people want your mama wanted you hang and now. And and I don't know that we need to go all the way back to bat right monster energy has made an amazing brand out of if you write down familiar taken up too much room. Get out here on the edge in awe for a line dance on the edge of a blade with a us live life a little bit easier. Then then the guy next to you I don't think that's a bad thing for sport like hours. Where honestly our athletes do things that the average person is either unable org or logically unwilling to do and I think sponsors but in the back. More coming up a day Modi as NASCAR live continues. The Daytona 500. We continue on NASCAR live it's the talent show all the announcers that you do in here every single weekend on motor racing network joining us is sitting down tonight Dave let's go off the beaten path. First ever race you announced for motor racing network of. First race I ever announced for motor racing network I'd I believe. Was what's now the X entity series. At Daytona during speed weeks and like from me did I don't even know the exact year. But I I came down to audition that Europe a Vermont just out of college knots on an 820 yeah oh yeah early to mid eighties. And and I can't wait a look at could be the mid six and it's true to. Says hello I mean what a shocker. Erode hard blow it way over. Anyway. Probably early to mid eighties and and they brought down and I did my little audition and I was I was remarkably mediocre memories of and and they sent out with Dave to Spain to turn to. It just kind of be spot. And and I think we did what were in the and 120 fives are what are they called back. And and we got all that went back in the next day we have the production meeting for the X but he rates or whatever and anticipates that wasn't at all never forget the instant. On guys he's a motorcycle. I'm only been one to let him go out there and do. And John McMullen who was the head of the network back and look at me and rightfully. I can see the wheels turning in his that now my god early wanna do this I'm not see at night and you look Jimmy says well you wanna do. Yeah gonna do it's. We'd withers has acerbic as John just wanna cuts and we don't need to be that way it's a long time. John was fiscally responsible all as political also. In response. Lobbied favorite turn position on the circuit. Two can have two. You meet once I'm once I'm Aaron in position darling. But it's the worst. Blocked me to do what we do you can't be scared of heights new getting up latter at garlic the latter is about eight inches wide. But the banking falls off like by a hundred feet so pissed off that latter are a 150 feet down where you touch anything but they're. Once you get there it's the greatest term position in the world because you are literally looking straight down on the cars. From from my feet. Where the cars are it's probably seven feet of actual space not owning up and down to laterally so the cars are literally underneath. And enrichment is kind of that way to have you been up and it turned reposition it ripped. If you could fall out of a term position and and they adapt to throw caution for debris in the bottom group so closely are the better he'll like it. I also like Martinsville Tuukka richter and grandstand people that is that's blunt I'm an hour and carry on. Am not me well well well never a little couple years ago I think you had you had like this this. The late remake old lady behind you and up on while Dale Junior was taking it was. When Andres. Which made this lady that was sitting behind me immigrants and very happy. Even batterer she was being did some bowel by the day by Jack are you couldn't really tell the difference and there's a lot of screaming and wailing or not. And I got back to be a Marin truck was all over her like my god that woman next you was losing her mind. You next to me she was five rows back. If she is next to me you heard me at all old no she was she was on gloom there was a murder and that you lose it or not I mean it was grace you as she was. Fifteen feet are now. I don't lady. I love being in the in the stands with the fans when we can. I'd say I love to have it be close to the racetrack I love Chicago landing Kansas for that. I liked over 'cause it's inside. But any about what's beyond well shrimp and the Dietz and Watson a hot dog that's your main track about let's forget about the crab cakes in the be tendered notes do but I mean. No we digress. Or yellow holes I mean really they hauler fund they really ended but but they all have their own unique personality Daytona. At Daytona social slight. I mean where I am on the backstretch I look over I see the tower. And I see the whole stadium and it's just breathtaking lake Lloyd's right there Talladega. Lower for me. Kind of pulled back from the racetrack when they come blast blasting by unit too much and I were your spot interns do at Talladega. Holy Moses when they get them negative against that wall son and today's open. Aria hack as a blow it Democrats straightaway take in they'll take your app it will but bottom line is Mike whatever track were at whatever term position world. It's like people working in the voice yeah. You know where were doing what we love to do. And they give us money. Lot of money. Also have to get back home somewhere expert stalwart you'll. I think your call I gotta go. I'm out of here yet I edged anybody up Alex patent and steep post will John. It's. Mike Bagley we continue along this week's edition of NASCAR live we've heard from the turns let's hear from the yes. Joining us Steve post Alex Hayden are. Reporters highly steamed pit reporters gentlemen welcome all you could mean it's great to be a year now now we're down into the pits right I know our rights here at the bottom of the barrel on the back. I don't know it's up you know we have fun and it turns but it all goes down into pits and this. Big stories 2017. As Davis saw as you guys as well posting a start when you exist or two that. Tempting to me from a pit road garage perspective was the inspection process. What a crazy you're we've lived through with the inspections and and I don't even know that I understand I mean I really don't it's frustrating. Because every week there's penalties there's delays this once held fifteen minutes. And I just it's very frustrating what's going on I know we want a level playing field so I understand NASCAR enforcing the rules but the problem there is is. Every week there's problems the problems getting the group for qualifying the problems get into the group for the races there was that doesn't than this one sold for fifteen minutes in the for the second infraction in the swim near the I'm telling you want inspection to me. Was a mouse and it's challenging to cover quite honestly I mean it's again NASCAR wants the old rules to everybody but it's just just off. While glossy and that thing with that is how much evidence the rules vs how much of it is the competitors trying to expand the rules well I think there's definitely a factor of expert competitors trying to expand the rules but how many times have you heard we rolled the car right back around and it was good or we rolled right arrows at enemy until there is a certain element of that but it's good that the ball or crap. But you just across the board you have so many issues were that you just you've got to wonder after awhile when when sixteen cars get make inspection is that sixteen teams she didn't. Or is there something wrong with the process that I think it opens up questions on the process went on at ballot alphabet you. I think it's it was the the transformation we saw Tom and it's of the Joseph Gibbs toyotas. Throughout there early part of the season and all of the sudden come the month of April where hearing rumblings in the garage area that. NASCAR may be changing some rules they may start. Making these teams well the rearrange these race cars they may be doing different things that to work on the skew. And when you start dig a little deeper and talking to some of the folks in the garage that where the team uniforms that. Will never give their names out because they won't Wear team new uniforms anymore. They also the same thing worth the self policing garage. We see what some of these other teams are doing. Some of them would be actually told me they have secretly. Walked by while cards jacked up the ladder and a middle practice and recorded with their cell phone. Some some video and they take it may run a NASCAR say here's what they're doing. This is wrong and then we saw so many times drivers on. Cooldown lap whether it be after qualifying or racing. Asked Weaver in their card left and right trying to get the rear end housing back in or so and then NASCAR comes out starting a new rule changes or use the all star race to try to adapt the new rule in there to see if that's going to be one of those deals that cures the problem so. To me that was one of the biggest things that I think leveled the playing field. Once we got to the chase you didn't hear anything else about. You know what's interesting is that at the beginning of the season we had the new aerodynamic package. And let's just say for the sake of this discussion they took away a hundred units a downpour. Well okay we started the season down a hundred units of of downforce. But yet by the time we got to Maine they got back thirty units. By the time we got to July they got 4050 units and by the time we got the homestead they got about eighty units back. So that NASCAR's got to come back and reset the downforce and or take a lot more away for 2070 and you have. All these drivers off or out or we wanna drive these race cars we wanna slip and slide. That's what they tell us slot there with a microphone to get turned off they go to their engineers of the critics say that we need to find the outwardly and we've we've got to get. Can't drive this thing I. Is cars cars to control the roll into the corner and control. And it has been it's been a Muslim is a I want to correct knowledgeable little release of those sweeping powers back and forth on the cooldown left new adjustment for the tigers edged off record and a I don't athletic in his view an average of clean players from me. Back in the truck exactly. And get it out of there but that. Another thing. Load all of mind I thought. Who would have thought we want to elaborate at what the producers and he called up recently published order that sum up the mobile want quick a quick oh lubrication quick to place. He said he's gonna give us some time though we stood in the microphone in the next thing you know heroes Tony Stewart outlook notes. And collateralized we have one of the gym for a there was aren't marred microphone right in front of everybody. And a exploded. And the the reaction. Alex and we talked to Tony Gibson crew chief and he was losing his mind and he has lost couple weeks to work because of that but the lug nut who ought we would've gone down. Ironically emitted Tony Gibson being one of the crew chief suspended because of that. By the way is Boston's Tony Stewart so little Sony bringing that aren't available. Asked. It it was crazy to think about something so simple so basic. To have such an impact throughout the entire cities. It went all through the season at one dollar or the all star race were stopping cars on pit road for the first I'm going along much. Phoenix Arizona next to last race and expeditionary zealots and look at Boston for infractions so it went all year long to know what what I've always been resting is is how. Alex and you and I'm and we you know as well you talk these guys and how precisely are in these teams literally we're getting down on. Tuesday they were making sure they had three of five lug nuts off. They triggered if they had three of five securely on one point three loved our time takes a little bit less time and putting five on and I think if this all stems from how competitive it is on pit road and it's so amazing don't middle level competition but the level of detail these teams went through. To try to get that half a second but then. It's transition from that and go into a team that I I scratch my head. And just ask in the words of legendary Barney hall what's Rome and that's Roush Fenway racing. Boy I'll tell you what that's the million dollar question it has been incredible watch it is just not on anywhere at all in the end though the challenge that they is that. These teams live in the NASCAR garage but these futile to live within the manufacturers. And its knowledge Ford has struggled Penske Racing has been so strong. And now this for this compound was Stewart Haas going to the Ford camp where is Roush Fenway going to be in the pecking order with their routines as opposed to three teams. That just falls and all the mighty helpful remember a few years ago Jack rushed to ruin the sport because he put five cars in the ten car chase. Now all my gosh it's just really been bad. I don't know Al I don't know but the problem is Alex I don't know if there's even a noticeable because this seems like there's just a lot of problems over there. Yet in and we we save Roush Fenway racing that encompasses the expanded the series as well. When when you've got. Great young talented driver and bubble Wallace who is highly marketable they have a hard time finding a spot from Bob. They knew had last year Chris bush or win the expanded these series championship Scott graves the crew chief he's gone he's gone over to Joseph Gibbs racing. Chris butcher when he's not even in the Ralph speedway car he's driving for front row this year gives you an idea how difficult is this is a championship expanded eighteen. That they weren't even able to keep together put him in a Sprint Cup Series cart I get. That Chris is still under contract win with Roush Fenway racing. But you have to basically moved him to a competitors need a shabby team there yes overjoyed TG a toaster that it it's not just the Sprint Cup Series side of things or. The monster energy series our premier series. That's another big topic of this year we'll get to that I'm sure bet you know Roush Fenway racing at its hits accurately it. Well and also when you look at. They've lost Matt Kenseth. Jeff Burton. Mark Marten. Carl Edwards and now Greg Biffle. And now your roster is Ricky Stan Haas junior Trevor made great race car drivers but a very compared to all those that I just mentioned a very green futile race card. They are they are yet strip remains at Daytona 500 champion yes Ricky stay in house juniors a two time ex been eighty series champion. But I think it goes deeper than that to me it's about the race cars themselves right now. They they found themselves a little bit behind just in the pure engineering of their race cars and building their their machines to get out there and compete I don't think it's necessarily the talent of the drivers. You're right that the list of drivers he named off by. It used to grip at steering wheel route and with that don't anymore. If it's not even really worth comparing but. You still have two talented drivers they're just awful in the race car. And the problem is when you get behind you starts slowing and stuff and when experts will install some overworked some of the doesn't work in of the doesn't work you put your further behind and he bought every vice pull. Pulled away. Your not aiming for rate target that in the same spot because well you're slowing and stuff and skis solo against up and regards Joseph Gibbs racing Stewart Haas and they're all moving forward as well. And speaking of that we had take a break all wall sling some were slotted more stop what are NASCAR live. In order to maximize the vehicle's performance and efficiency the proper adjustments need to be made based on the road ahead. That's true for both race car drivers on the track and for truck drivers hauling freight on the highway. But if you were trucks equipped with the Detroit DT twelve automated manual transmission with intelligent power train management adjustments are made on. Automatically based on GPS terrain mapping. Maximizing performance and efficiency. Don't just want better business solutions demand them learn more demand Detroit dot com. Ask him Mario what are they are out there are covered every other fan forum hotline. Your connection to NASCAR. This is NASCAR live on the motor racing network the voice of NASCAR. If you ask a lie and back to your holes Mike Bagley NASCAR live rolling right along way and two thirds of our out. Standing. Trio steep post and Alex you know whether us. A transition now and vertigo. As we'd it would David Hume let's go off the beaten path Alex I'll start with you. First race she ever announced for motor racing network was. On the air it was the Goodrich 200 for the NASCAR Busch Series. February 1997. At the rock Rockingham. I was at turner announcer and going out to work the backstretch turns 34 Rockingham. It was Allen best wicket was Barney hall in the boot it was do more in turn one. Winston Kelley Jim Phillips and Marty Snider on pit road and Jim Phillips we affectionately calling chop. He looked at me is it an eight new guy. Don't mess this up and that was the added plus I. I'll never forget it error it was it was cold and I had to go out there and figure out how to climb in this this billboard that earned Briere rocking him. While a few of you have been 2003. Truck series race at Darlington. Okay and with the probably the normal route we have now because I'm the new valuable it would not have been your pool fourteen unit bounced all the new. But but yeah I was at the thing that I remember a ball that the most. Okay this was when there was acute for Missouri by the name of Carl Edwards who was trying to give him one jet motion strong Oca I was down turnover for a Darlington. And the trucks were garage over on the backstretch so. They had a motor problem so they ruled the truck behind that wall. Well I didn't necessarily know one universal protocol. Of getting in there and interview the driver when he is not new they told me when the wind and that is down easel and season. Well Carl was very anxious to be interviewed by motor racing network equipment that agrees or from work or for that Columbia Missouri army and so when he sees tomorrow it is cool so he emotions me. We're just about his role in the truck and the next thing you know we're doing an interview would be pushing the truck to score right across and builder. And as our state radio Garrett at the federal budget as well push and we pushed across the infield got my senator Carl Edwards about. The funniest interview you have ever done in its funniest one I have ever done was. Ward Burton in qualifying show at poke okay. As we know award as the old Virginia drawl okay. Soul and he had just been out this was after the war Clark gone away at the Kodak car. Butler were broader are back for just a limited schedule innumerable state water heaters all right as the water here's Carmine event. And so ward of light. Well oh on a planet Larry my book as long together. What happened to your view is they bees started flying around awards moll. One of learn. McCleon. On this call we got. We got a really good group. Well they could see an apparent and at the racetrack to racetrack we've got disparate visions greens so the book can see it and they see mine Mike wide because I'm losing my mind here now you look at church. And the more you. That the UN aboard that he was good there. And bless this art he kept right I'm dig in the short birdie was gonna get all the sponsors you've got to give everyone an RV or not and I was then and there. And the Mike why is just I'm just the way because I was dying. Big board doesn't do these odd that slot in flail in the flying around pocono we are usually use the radar to your bottles. I'll jackets hornets got a ball well exactly so I had snakes this past year what are you what your which of honest interview my Guinness there's there's a difference between. My favorite. Their coolest and probably the honest and it's the honest. Actually tag teams would with Steve post and ironically at pocono raceway it was awful one Tony Stewart. He always enjoy wade. Picking on us radio guys. It seemed like more so me. And Steve and then anybody else Wednesday and he can't respect for Winston no respect for not an insult we agree with. I was getting ready to interview somebody other than Tony Stewart in the driver's Gromit at the driver reduction building at pocono which is behind the main. Big Pagoda that they have there. And. As the wind from the boot is coming somebody grabs my hits it takes off my head right in the middle of the wind up. And I'm like oh my gosh techie here when they throw it to me and I turn and look quickly because some might take my hits at. It's Tony distort it trying to run away with more cables are pulling me away from the guy I'm supposed to interview. And I don't know when they're when they're actually drop it to me that's when Steve is kind of in the in the crowd as well Steve's parts. Frantically. Warning we like ghosts I start my interview. I just ahead and go at it while Tony is trying to pull me away via my headset so that was one of the honest I've ever done I think one of the coolest that was last year. And homestead Miami speedway Jeff Gordon's final race his final pre race. He's there all that the pomp and circumstance to celebrate Jeff Gordon's career in his last race and oh by the way a potential championship as he was one of the championship Bork. And Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was with yet he was I was jealous of you that. I and it's pretty cool and I have to say with that mass of people back there at the driver introduction stage at homestead last year. Nobody knew who Lewis Hamilton won which is ridiculous idea how do you know who Lewis Hamilton and I I say there is Jeff asked Kate I got to talk to Jeff he was our target for more production meeting. A that we had it and in the MR instruct them morning. And it and I just kind of like star struck as like Jeff I'm sorry but. We'll talk a little I would never use chime in on the cuter when the brakes and do we want Lewis Hamilton and again I hope we give them yeah. Endless of greatest idea you minus at the world motor racing or national radio that we haven't really you know the problem with. So we'll okay cool. Suggest almost start with you but I'm right below us and just aren't lap he said man I would too. That's awful stuff is really really cool gentlemen it's been a fun 2016. Again it will test charge our batteries in the Perino will be back at the worlds that are racing here for speed weeks are just now don't you wait you wait in a pack the bags well I al-Qaeda that's at the pump the brakes on battle that Santa's got a agrees himself up slide and it didn't it. And now we bring in I guess the fingers on the keyboard of all those that contribute. The motor racing network let's bring in senior motor racing network dot com writer Pete does Donnie who's in the house elevator. Oh Mike I knew it yet throws a lot got a wireless. What are. When you more so than anybody in Chicago you mark. Yeah eyeball deep in the winter wonderland right now aren't just. I am and that's why I'm content on those days to get through speed weeks out of Florida where are all over biggest news story. Of 2016. Was. Jimmie Johnson putting his name in the record book you know Mike but I look back on this year there's nothing else on with a great for about. The Jimmie Johnson finally died Richard Petty and dale or whatever somebody at any sport. Make history to me that the moment that's gonna resonate the most that this year albeit adapt our world. No different and I guess you could just add in the way he did it going into that final race never having good and after this before. Really truly in a war for that. Yellow flag late in the race from the set out junior spun out of that restart and Jimmie Johnson taking advantage of the circumstances that we're given him that day it. Be able to really go up there are performed the way he did we would be talking about that marble ball sub chipped chipped. But he did it and I'll always look back at this past season as the one we're Jimmie Johnson type two Gigabit that would. It's amazing to watch Jimmie and Chad do their thing over the years and yell what do we don't learn our lesson that whenever the 48 isn't Victory Lane every week that the end of the world is not here that. That there are opportunities for them to rebound and you mention that race at that at homestead Miami speedway. They did just that that last caution flag doesn't come out they don't win the championship in my opinion. I completely agree with you and you're also right about what are we gonna learn our lesson about saying that Jimmie Johnson or check it out. And that combo that have been together for all these seven championships are ever out of any lead they started a year. So strong winning races that are in the sort of what now op the radar about their own admission that they they were looking for speed and they're looking for answers and big. Well those dancers. In a big way on the chase rolled around that 48 team was strong and we were being old in August early September by the Hendrick folks say. To stick around we we've got some car we've got the things he figured out and we're gonna show what we have here. What's the best part of the season comes for us in terms of trying to win a championship when the chase get it. Churn up they did that and as you mentioned they did a pretty dramatic fashion that late race restart at homestead Miami speedway. When folks go and MRI dot com here in the off season look in the fine. What we've been recapping all the drivers at a chase and going through their seasons and we look at the memories are there we would also like to do with such as what you were able to save that I able to do I'd keyboard. A lot of photos a lot of pictures and we go into the archives through a lot of the stories that we've written over the course of this. Previous season but a lot of audio as well out in you know we're already previewing next you we have all the scheduled there. Keep out seventeen of the top years as well educated series. In the modified did the court of law. Will be writing season previews for all these organizations so. And of course when news breaks we are right there in reacting to it as well also there's always so that's what it forced out. Everett dot com and a look at port a little bit of a new look there were general Ali get speed which you doubts that he'd as well. For returning elusive and ask in the rest of fellows about this isu as well. First ever raced it she worked on a year for motor racing network was when. Oh yes it was mis speaking loudly over my knees knocking that would and her boat or a truck series race at Martinsville Speedway. That would had to have been in the spring of 2000. And and the and my very first on air interview was with. The gunslinger Mike Skinner and I'll never forget Mike standing down there listening to our late great colleague Paul Bremer Barney hall. Wrote it down to let's go live deplete the stony from Chicago market rather a BM never ever. Got to forget and what do data was an opportunity to be part the aren't you in it all started that some spring afternoon back in march of 2000. You know we all had aspirations at one point or another in in one thing that opportunity to go on the air and be a part of the broadcast for and Moran. You you waited a long time and he finally got that opportunity. How was the first experienced different from your expectations of it when you wanted to do it. Well you know it's funny because I I grew up what we all do illicitly that some of the greats that so many of the voices that have gone down. In the annals and history and have are added you try to. Nick what you can emulate what you can learn. What's it light a fire. All that stuff kind of goes out the window because you're there at MI can lie and I remembered being nervous once. That started talking and and I remember again it was Joseph Moore party in the boot that date and they're throwing in the in my told the reporters that they steep poston and Alex eight. Was so helpful is it the more I wanted to put the more I got that. The more comfortable I've felt but I'll I'll just I'll never forget that moment standing down there looking around and all the net of how to act that this happened I don't like it out here and have this opportunity and was an opportunity of a light so grateful record heat today. Your great friend your great colleague and your great writer as well not to mention broadcaster. Your valuable asset to motor racing network glad to have yet. Say same happy holidays on behalf of me and the rest of us here DeMarre and at Shelley may have patsy in the valuable mobile Puerto scene again at Daytona. Line and bring in one of the anchors of motor racing number Joseph Moore in the house a Joseph. I'm I'm saying same to you and everybody in the family there. At this showdown as we've already closed to seize and held. What your feet back on what you saw this year what are some of the things that stood out Tia. Well you know it that covered a lot of ground level I would not. At the obviously. The big news what Jimmie Johnson when he gets seventh championship. And out and no black now look at at the last race. Of the season. Even with all the twists and turns said that one race as sort of up microcosm. Of the entire series. You know we went for such a long period time. With Ginny not winning a race and everybody thought OK they lost at its all over and then suddenly. And collect what is dignity start obliterate Charlotte Martinsville then you know that act crazy story at homestead. That he embattled talk then and so. You know. This season and that last rites very sober for Jimmy. I don't think anybody got any chance. Throughout the season or and that rates until the last few laps that he had a shot and then suddenly the waters part of the battery was quite miraculous. It was what's amazing though is that as we got out of the end of that race. You had two championship contenders have basically took each other out and there's the 48 car standing to capitalize and then having to go through another green white checker. It's pretty amazing finish it you know the ironic thing is we do all the racing that we do all season long and in 36 and seven eighths of a race. Or 35 and seven eighths of a race it all comes down to agree white checkered to a to basically in overtime finish it's pretty remarkable. Yeah that really was an entity and I think that is that speaks loudly what a great way to wrap up the year with such a script. That you know it it would make a great book to write the story that worries. How bleak it looked. Up until that that it hadn't occurred you were talking about. Obviously Jolene Garland suddenly like OK here we go I mean is this it's it's unbelievable stroke of bad site. This going through it over and over buy it now what happens you know at a surgeon who wouldn't think bush. And you know corset and he ties Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty with with seven. Cup series championships. Where does that put Jimmy in relation to those two drivers and as far as like the greatest of all time it's a great debate that we've had a resents. Mean that homestead Miami speedway what's your opinion about what that titled us to Jimmie Johnson compared to the other two that hold that same mark. Well obviously put him and in some very unique company and probably in a category that. Nobody else will make. Are in the remainder of time. I mean when I was quite the chase is set up now the chances of it repeating and doing you know multiple years and oh you've been. Getting years you're they get the championship probably bet that we're gonna happen again. So you know I think that. That is just pure talent and class and that speaks volumes about Hendrick Motorsports and Jimmy and champ but they've built together. And the and it reflects on you know Richard Betty back in his day and night and dale are hearted as they course. Each story is completely different how it worked in this situation and those particular times. But you know that's a milestone but again that that it stands for eternity it today. Not only not only that but it's also impressive that the way Jimmie Johnson was championship extended to a different cars he's done it in different formats. Pretty impressive what he's been able to do and of course as were talking about right now ties him at legends like Dale Earnhardt. And Richard Petty to point turn you loose and asking the rest of the guys SI askew as well what was your first race on the air for MR and. Op. It was a 1979. Daytona 500 does not recall that was a few weeks ago. And at is it was one of those situations that this spur of the moment. I had done some auditions and they called me and said okay we want you to come valid it is because somebody can't come that we need some help so please. And about there was. Pretty awesome to make that the first race in. Yeah but it happened a lot of you spent a lot of your career in the turns as you have the the anchor Booth. When you're in the turns. What were some of the most unique things that happened out there are some of the interesting things it's yet to cover. Some some odd things that may be folks don't even know that even happened. I think probably one of the strangest. And it was at Talladega. And and I don't remember what year this was up a bit early to mid eighties. Look at it turned to Jimmy or. Went over the wall album racetrack. But there was so much up in smoke that you really can. If it was the old car or just maybe hood in just couldn't tell and in those days we didn't have the TV coverage. And so I was directed decline bailed from my power and walk over urgency. If the car was actually they are not because we nobody knew for sure. And of course that racetrack so they look all over the place and still must see it and so I had to go Obama all but as Joseph track. Not in the court. And and sure enough the cars light at Gerald L. Bill but they that the turn wanted to area. And he's coming out of car he's okay. And I came back upstairs and evacuate at that point like they're important Dan and I said oh cap album is OK of course by the and the security at all there. That was one of the weirdest days I believe I've ever seen at a racetrack and all the sudden you look up and Everest Jimmy Horton. Sale and out of the ballpark great ball all the safety and based we have now we don't have that we're about Joseph we appreciate the time. Happy holidays to you in the family able to afford to see negated Daytona here a few weeks. Our might happy holidays to you guys as well it it will be all we'll be back. Let it again I'm in we will.
