Truex Adds More Playoff Points

June 18, 2017

Martin Truex Jr. continued to add to his playoff points total at Michigan International Speedway by sweeping the first two stages in Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400.

It marked the third time this season that Truex has took the opening two stages in a race to go along with Las Vegas and Dover.

Truex leaves Michigan with 10 season stage wins and is the first driver to eclipse 200 Stage 1 and 2 points with his total since the Daytona 500 standing at 205.

After leading three times for 62 laps, Truex wound up finishing sixth at Michigan after not being able to take advantage on late-race restarts due to being in the wrong lane.

“We had the best car out there without a doubt – just inside lane restarts at the end killed us, so just stinks when you have to race like that," Truex said. "You get just in a bad spot and there’s nothing you can do about it. We seen it the last couple restarts, so just wrong place. Probably should have took two tires that last time we pitted – we took four. That killed us. Just wrong lane on the restart every single time all day long and couldn’t use the best car to win.”

With the finish, Truex lost the series points lead to race winner Kyle Larson. He now trails Larson by five points. However, Truex continues to show the way when it comes to playoff points, leading the series with 20.
