What a Conversation Starter!

February 25, 2019

Hola Bitcholas,

The show traveled to Vegas for a few days last week to attend a radio convention-type thing. It was fine (with the exception of the fact that it f**king SNOWED while we were there) but we all came back Saturday...exhausted in that singular haze that only Vegas can provide.

In spite of the shaky hands and energy-depletion, I made it to the Hops and Props Beer thing at the Museum of Flight.

This was the last place I needed to go, but I went...and I'm glad I did. In spite of how I was feeling when I first got there, it didn't take long to get into the swing of things.

Drinking...it's like riding a bike.

Met an unexpectedly high number of listeners. That made the whole thing more enjoyable as everyone I interacted with was remarkably kind. Seems that human beings still have that capacity and I was glad to be on the receiving end.

The highlight, however, was when I snuck outside to grab a cigarette. The joy of breathing in that sweet-sweet, cancer-tainted nicotine was not the 'highlight', it was the greeting I received from a listener.

He strolled up to me, extended his hand and said, "Shmegma."

Under any ordinary circumstance, greeting someone with "shmegma", instead of, say, something more traditional like, "hello", "hi", "sup"...even "ahoy, matey!" seems more likely than "shmegma"...but there we were.

This show, as it happens, rarely births 'ordinary circumstance'. See, we'd had a lengthy discussion a few weeks ago about 'shmegma'. Not our initial intent, but it was part of the news story we were discussing. It was memorable. And that is why "shmegma" was an acceptable greeting.

That is what I gleaned from this weekend.

I'm out.

Until tomorrow, do what you do best and STAY BEAUTIFUL!
