"Spongebob Squarepants" Creator Stephen Hillenburg Dies At 57

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the smash Nickelodeon cartoon "Spongebob Squarepants," has passed away at the age of 57. Hillenburg had been battling ALS, and in March 2018 he was diagnosed with neurodegenerative disease.

Hillenburg first began writing for "Rock's Modern Life" in 1993 before officially launching the animated series "Spongebob Squarepants" on May 1st, 1999.

Since its fruition, "Spongebob Squarepants" went on to win four Emmy awards, six Annie awards, two feature films and a Broadway musical.
