ATREYU - Still Being True To Themselves

November 15, 2019

No matter how much the world around you changes, you must stay true to yourself.  That is essential if you want to have any longevity in life.  Regardless if you have to make decisions that some might find questionable, you must know who you are and where you are going.  Well for one California band, that has always been the main goal.

ATREYU is currently celebrating 20 years in the business, and they are still trying to maintain the same ideals that they started with.  Yes along the way the band has tried a few musical things that some might have deemed out of sorts, but the goal line has never really faded out of view.  You see, many bands fall prey to the same industry that they are desperately trying to break into.  It seems that signing the “big deal” might be a long gone opportunity.  To make it, one must be honest about who they are and what they really want.  Maybe with that, a fledgling band might just stand a chance of making it a few decades in the game.

I recently had the chance to sit down with Atreyu bassist Marc “Porter” McKnight to talk about all things music.  Take a listen to our chat about surviving 20 years in the business, going radio friendly, staying true to one’s self, and what a person needs to do if they want a career in music.
