Seether Dedicates 2017 Rise Above Fest To Chester Bennington & Chris Cornell

July 21, 2017

Each year, Seether's music festival "Rise Above Fest" raises awareness for suicide prevention and funds for the nonprofit group, SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education).

Upon hearing the news for the recent death of Chester Bennington's of Linkin Park, Seether frontman Shaun Morgan annouced that this year's festival will be held in memory of Bennington and Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell.

Morgan said in a statement, "Losing another great rock voice to suicide yesterday is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking. It's exactly why we are doing what we set out to do this weekend - to build awareness to anyone who has lost someone. If this festival does something to help one person reconsider the tragic choice of suicide, then it will be the greatest success of my career. We will honor the memories of Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell and dedicate this weekend to them."

Morgan himself has had direct experience deaing with suicide. Upon losing his brother Eurgene Morgan to suicide in 2007, he has been very open with his thoughts and feelings on the issue. In 2016, Morgan received the award for Artistic Expression from the National Council For Behavioral Health in lieu of his efforts to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

He was also a recent guest on Mistress Carrie's Side Piece Podcast where he describes his own battles with depression and thoughts of suicide as well. Listen below!
