October 12, 2016

It's been a project long in the works, but it appears that the highly-awaited Janis Joplin biopic "Janis" is finally underway with Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams (not to be confused with Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child) in talks to land the starring role.

Directed by Sean Durkin ("Martha Marcy May Marlene", "Southcliffe") "Janis" is set to illustrate last six months of the life of the rock icon through her time with Big Brother and the Holding Company until her death of accidental drug overdose at the age of 27. Producer Peter Newman holds the rights to a significant portion of Joplin's musical catalogue as well as written materials.

Williams is also expected to be a big Oscar contender for her role in "Manchester by the Sea," and she has also been nominated for a Tony award for her performance in the play "Blackbird."
