Murder Suspect Listened To Guns N' Roses' "Used To Love Her" Before Killing Girlfriend

October 20, 2016

According to The Orange County Register, a Costa Mesa man listened to the Guns N' Roses song "Used To Love Her" before murdering his live-in girlfriend.

52-year-old Thomas Michael Wilhelm is accused of shooting 45-year-old Christine Marie Murray after their personal and business relationships plummeted. Evidence showed that eleven minutes before Murray was shot, Wilhelm texted to a friend saying that he was listening to "Used To Love Her" by Guns N' Roses. Wilhelm attempted suicide via shotgun before the police arrived, but the gun misfired. Wilhelm is now faced with first degree murder and faces a sentence of 50 years to life in prison.

Guns N' Roses members have said in the past that "Used To Love Her" was written as a joke and wasn't based on anyone in particular. "I was sitting around listening to the radio and some guy was whining about a broad who was treating him bad," said guitarist Izzy Stradlin. "I wanted to take the radio and smash it against the wall. Such self-pity! What a wimp! So we rewrote the same song we heard with a better ending." Slash added, "People think it's about one of our old girlfriends, but it's actually about Axl [Rose]'s dog."
