Yes Keyboardist Rick Wakeman Talks About The Best Advice David Bowie Gave Him And Telling Dirty Jokes At His Rock N Roll hall Of Fame Induction

September 19, 2019

As a member of Yes and later with his solo releases Rick Wakeman has created epic pieces of music that have spanned space and time and were sometimes long enough to take up a whole afternoon commute on the Southeast Expressway from Boston to Braintree.  "Prog Rock" artists like Yes, Emerson Lake And Palmer, Genesis, King Crimson and the like have always taken their music(and sometimes themselves) a little too seriously.  Rick Wakeman is the exception there.  Just take a look at his Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame Acceptance speech from 2017. Rick's bit starts at 6:53:

No surprise Wakeman has been involved in comedy television in Britain for many years.  He's also played keyboards for some pretty outstanding artists like Elton John, Cat Stevens, T Rex, and David Bowie.  You can hear his work with Bowie on "Space Oddity" and most of the "Hunky Dory" album.  He also credits Bowie with giving him some of the best advice he's ever received regarding the music business.  We talk about that, his Rock Hall speech, and his time in Yes in the interview below.  You can see Rick bring his "Grumpy Old Rock Star Tour" to The Wilbur Theater in Boston on Monday(9/23/19)
