April 26, 2017

In case you don't know the name Jonathan Demme, you are most certainly aware of his work directing films like Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia. Like many other talented directors, Demme, who died at the age of 73 on April 26th, 2017, had his hand directing music videos as well as major Hollywood feature films.

"Music was my first love, movies came second," he once said in an interview. "You get to design three minutes in a stylized way. You really get lost in a song you like."

Below are five music videos that were blessed to have Demme fulfill the song's vision.

  1. New Order - "The Perfect Kiss"

  2. Artists United Against Apartheid - "Sun City"

  3. Suburban Lawns - "Gidget Goes to Hell"

  4. The Feelies - "Away"

  5. Bruce Springsteen - "Streets of Philadelphia"
