Worcester Remembers The 6 Firefighters Killed In The Cold Storage Fire 19 Years Ago

On December 3rd, 1999, six of Worcester's finest made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a fire at the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Company. Their names were Lt. Thomas Spencer, Lt. Timothy Jackson Sr., Lt. James Lyons |||, Jeremiah Lucey, Paul Brotherton and Joseph McGuirk. It was determed that the fire was started by a pair of homeless people.

Comedian/actor Denis Leary was close to two of the victims, as Lucey was his coustin and Spencer was a childhood friend. Leary has since started the Leary Firefighters Foundation, which raises funds, resources and support for fire departments nationwide.

To mark the anniversary of the fire, the city of Worcester will be holding an unofficial ceremony at the Franklin Street fire station at 6pm to pay homage to the six brave men lost nineteen years ago.
