Woman Uses Linkin Park Lyrics To Prevent Man's Suicide

July 30, 2019

As the topic of mental health continues to be a growing concern that more people are beginning to take seriously, sometimes all it takes is one good deed to make a world of difference.

In Orlando, FL, police received a call about a man who was seen sitting on the bridge of a busy overpass. According to WKMG-TV, a series of poor decisions and family problems lead the man to believe that suicide was the only way out. As hundreds of cars kept driving past him, only one stopped.

Christina Settanni, a healthcare professional, got out of her car and sat with the man. "I stopped because I've been where he is. He needed someone to show they cared," says Settanni. To try to comfort the man, Settanni quoted a lyric from the Linkin Park song "One More Light" which went,  "Who cares if one more light goes out in a sky of a bllion stars? Well, I do."

"I didn't know if it clicked with him, but he just cried," she said.

By the time police arrived at the scene, they were able to pull the man back to safety. The man was not arrested, but was taken to a mental healthcare facility.

Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington committed suicide on July 20th, 2017, the same year as Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.
