Vinnie Paul, Pantera Drummer & Co-Founder, Dies At 54

Vincent Paul Abbot, (aka "Vinnie Paul") has passed away at the age of 54.

According to a statement released by Pantera's Facebook page, "Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time.The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time."

Vinnie Paul formed the metal band Pantera with his brother "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott on guitar in 1981 where they wrote hit songs like "I'm Broken", "Cowboys From Hell", and "Walk", as well as four Grammy nominations, and nine albums to land on the Billboard 200 chart, including 1994's Far Beyond Driven which debuted at No. 1.

Following the band's fallout in 2003, Vinnie and his brother "Dimebag" Darrell founded Damageplan. But on December 8th, 2004, "Dimebag" was murdered onstage during a concert in Columbus, OH by a mentally ill fan.

Vinnie Paul later joined the heavy metal supergroup Hellyeah in 2006, which included members like vocalist Chad Gray of Mudvayne and Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell.
