Withheld Chris Cornell Recordings Stall Soundgarden's Final Album

July 24, 2019

In the wake of his death in 2017, the surviving members of Soundgarden have been working on an album that would make use of the final recordings by late frontman Chris Cornell. However, in an interview with Music Radar, guitarist Kim Thayil revealed that the album's progress is currently stalled because the final recordings by Cornell are being withheld from the band.

According to Thayil, neither he, drummer Matt Cameron, nor bassist Ben Shepherd have any of Cornell's original files, and that the individuals that are in possession of the originals will not give them access due to "confusion amongst various parties."

Despite attempts to rationally explain how all parties involved would benefit from the record, the album's completion is currently on hold until further notice.

In the meantime, the band released rare footage of their show from The Artists Den from their upcoming concert film, Live From The Artists Den.
