Johnny Rotten Rips Green Day And Modern Punk Bands

October 3, 2018

Sex Pistols frontman John Joseph Lydon (aka "Johnny Rotten") is never one to bite his tongue, and in an interview with the New York Times, he is particularly unsatisfied with the state of punk rock bands in 2018, especially with the largely successful Green Day.

Calling them "turgid" and "embarassing", Lydon considers Green Day and modern punk rock bands like them more like cartoons and posers of what punk rock used to be like.

Following the Sex Pistols' split, Lydon removed himself from the punk movement due to his belief that rather than change and evolve, encouraging individuals to be themselves depite what other people think, it had remained stagnant and uniform.
