Queen & Led Zeppelin Among Most Popular Rock Artists Played at Funerals

May 6, 2019

Weddings and birthday parties usually have a DJ on site to crank out the jams and keep the party going. Now it seems that a similar tactic is being adapted by funeral providers.

Co-op Funeralcare, the leading funeral service in the UK, has released its 2019 Funeral Music Charts of their most popular musical farewells. While hits like Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and "Time To Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman dominate the hot list, the top 10 rock list is ruled by classic rock artists like Led Zeppelin, Queen and Aerosmith.

  1. "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin
  2. "Bat Out Of Hell" by Meatloaf
  3. "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith
  4. "Who Wants To Live Forever" by Queen
  5. "The Show Must Go On" by Queen
  6. "Knocking On Heaven's Door" by Guns N' Roses
  7. "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd
  8. "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC
  9. "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen
  10. "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen

According to David Collingwood, director of funerals at Co-op Funeralcare, playing music during the service has become increasingly popular, setting the mood and tone of the event. “We all live such unique lives and funerals should completely reflect that. Each element of a funeral is a very personal decision which is why the music choice plays such an important and impactful role.

‘’We’re always encouraging people to be more open about their funeral wishes, making it clear to their loved ones what they would want for themselves when the time comes. Even knowing what song someone would have wanted can bring such comfort at an incredibly hard time.’’
