Queen's "FreddieMeter" Rates How Much You Sing Like Freddie Mercury

November 14, 2019

Freddie Mercury has been widely accepted as one of the greatest vocalists and frontmen in all of rock. Developed by Google Research, Queen has put out an A.I. experiment that analyzes how well fans can sing like Freddie Mercury through the "FreddieMeter."

According to the FreddieMeter website, "This experiment uses new, on-device machine learning models developed by Google Research to see how close your timbre, pitch, and melody are to Freddie’s."

The FreddieMeter was made in partnership with The Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor, and their manager Jim Beach in memory of Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991 from AIDS-related causes. Since 1992, the Trust has helped fund over 1,000 projects in 56 countries in the battle against HIV/AIDS.

Using the hashtag #FreddieChallenge, fans can upload their scores to their social media accounts and challenge three friends to see how well they fare against Mercury himself.
