Kurt Cobain Knew Dave Grohl Was A Great Singer, Says Ex-Manager

Years before he formed Foo Fighters, people started to become well aware of Dave Grohl's singing abilities, including the late Kurt Cobain.

According to his memoir Serving the Servant: Remembering Kurt Cobain, former Nirvana manager Danny Goldberg mentions a time in which Cobain commended how good of a singer Grohl was, and was jealous of it at the same time.

Goldberg, who managed Nirvana from 1990 to 1994, recalled a moment where Cobain told him how impressed he was by Grohl's singing voice. According to Goldberg, Cobain had a brotherly  sort of affinity for Grohl, though was a bit envious of how good of a singer he was. "He was competitive," says Goldberg.

In some of the outtakes of his HBO documentary Sonic Highways, Grohl told a story of how Kurt once kissed him after listening to some of his demos. “Kurt heard that, and kissed me on the face, as he was in a bath,” says Grohl. “He was so excited. He was like, ‘I heard you recorded some stuff. … I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘Let me hear it.’ I was too afraid to be in the same room as he listened to it.”
