New Spider Species Named After Members of Scorpions, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard

There are many honors that come with being a successful musician. Grammy awards, platinum records, stars on the Walk of Fame, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are nice. But imagine have your name being immortalized in the animal kingdom?

That is the case for members of Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Scorpions and Angra after Brazilion biologist Chrstina Rheims decided to attach their names to four newly-discovered species of spiders.

Part of the Sparinthinae family of spiders, the "Extraordinarius" spiders are found in the tropical region from southern Mexico to Argentina. As a big rock and metal fan, Rheims chose to name the four spiders after Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickenson (Extraordinarius bruceickinsoni), Scorpions' Klaus Meine (Extraordinarius klausmeinei), late Angra vocalist André Matos (Extraordinarius andrematosi) and Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen (Extraordinarius rickalleni).

After hearing the news, Rick Allen wrote on his Twitter "I am honored! Thank you, Christina Rheims! You rock!"
