Maynard James Keenan Discusses Tool's New Album & Crazy Famous People on 'The Joe Rogan Experience'

July 30, 2019

Maynard James Keenan admits that Tool has some of the most energetic and passionate fans on the planet. Even with a thirteen-year-gap between their upcoming album and their 2006 album 10,000 Days, Tool fans have been extremely patient and loyal.

"We're a very difficult band," Maynard says on The Joe Rogan Experience. "We're very stubborn and we're kind of ignorant to what goes on in the rest of the world." On the podcast, Maynard announces Tool's entrance into the streaming world by making their entire catalogue available, as well as revealing the title to their 2019 album, Fear Inoculum.

During the interview, Maynard also explains from personal experience why fame can sometimes drive people to became irrational and entitled.

"When you get successful you think you're right about everything," says Maynard. "And you're pretty sure as that individual 'I am right and you are wrong because I am successful and we are successful because of me, not because of you.'" Keenan also admits that although that kind of mentality isn't as bad with himself and his Tool bandmates, there is definitely a dynamic between them that can cause them to butt heads. "There's a dynamic of, 'I want this and I've always gotten my way, and that's why we're successful because I don't compromise on this or that,' and I'm the same way."
