Man Auctions Guitar to Pay for Niece's Funeral; Musicians Launch GoFundMe To Pay For It Instead

If you were ever feeling cynical over humanity, perhaps this story could change your mind.

Jeremy Brooks had posted the following ad to Facebook Marketplace, offering to sell his custom 7-string Kiesel guitar because of a family emergency. His five-month old neice had passed away from SIDS and needed to raise money to help his family cover funeral expenses.

“Hello fellow musicians, I am selling this bad boy today. I bought him at NAMM and he has served me very well. Clean tone, and everything I’ve ever wanted in a 7 string guitar. Asking price is $2000. Original price for this custom guitar is over $3469. Proceeds are going towards my niece’s funeral who passed away.”

But rather than just purchase the guitar, many anonymous online donated to a GoFundMe page offering to pay for the funeral itself, allowing Jeremy to keep his guitar. As of now, over $3,000 has been raised to cover funeral expenses.
