Mark Morton Discusses Working with Chester Bennington on "Cross Off"

April 5, 2019

Mark Morton's solo album Anesthetic boasts a huge lineup of talented vocalists and musicians featured on every track. Among those that stand out the most is the single "Cross Off" featuring vocals from Linkin Park's Chester Bennington that was recorded before his passing.

"I get to be a fan of the song too, even though I was a part of putting it together and a part of writing it," says Morton. "But just to listen to Chester sing like that again. He was so excited to scream and be on something heavy."

Even though Linkin Park's more recent body of work took a more pop angle, Morton says that Bennington was still staying true to his roots of metal and aggressive music. "We had such a good time recording this and writing it together. It was put into a different light since his passing of course, and some of the subject matter of the song's a little dark, but honestly when I think about it, when I hear it, we laughed a lot putting this together. We had a lot of fun. It was amazing watching him recording this, and it was just a really great opportunity that I'm grateful to have had."
