Kurt Cobain's "MTV Unplugged" Cardigan Sells for $334,000

October 28, 2019

The famous green cardigan sweater worn by Kurt Cobain from Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance in 1993 has been sold for a grand total of $334,000.

As part of the "Icons & Idols: Rock 'N' Roll" auction held by Juliens Auctions, this was the second time the cardigan was up for sale. Its first owner, pro race team owner Garrett Kletjian purchased the garment for $137,500 in November 2015, but chose to sell it after the "responsibility" of owning the sweater outweighed the bragging rights attached to it.

Long before it was headed to auction, the cardigan was given to the Cobain family's nanny Jackie Farry by his widow, Courtney Love. Farry, with permission from Love and Frances Bean Cobain, later sold the cardigan to raise money for cancer treatments.

Along with his cardigan, one of Cobain's Fender guitars was also up for auction.
