Jack White Launches No-Phone Policy During Concerts

January 24, 2018

As the usage of mobile devices remains a hot topic, Jack White has made it clear where he stands on the debate.

White released a statement addressing his no-phone policy, saying, "this is a PHONE-FREE show. No photos, video or audio recording devices allowed." Audience members will have their phones placed in the anti-cellphone Yondr pouches before the show, and will have them after the event ends. "We think you will enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON."

I appreciate what Jack is trying to accomplish here, and I agree that phones are so annoying at shows. But I think this is too extreme and kind of obsessive....especially seeing there have been so many mass shootings at large concerts these days. It also makes me uncomfortable being a young woman in a huge crowd and potentially not having access to my phone in case I was put in a very uncomfortable or threatening situation.

Comedian Dave Chappelle used the same anti-phone technology to promote the same live experience for audiences, as well as prevent leaks during the filming of his NETFLIX stand-up specials.
