Hip-Hop Heads Listen To Nirvana For The First Time and Get Sucked In

When it was 1990, the world didn't just enter a new decade. It also brought with it a tidal wave of new music. But if you were to make a list of iconic '90s artists, it is guaranteed that grunge giants, Nirvana would be on that list.

Along with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana toppled the reign of '80s hair metal and even managed to dethrone the King of Pop from the album charts.

Even though Nirvana's debut album Bleach was released in 1988, there are still people out there that have never listened to their music, let alone fans of other musical genres. So we collected a few hip-hop fans that gave their authentic reactions to hearing Nirvana for the first time, and sure enough, they are impressed!

In an unearthed interview from 1991, Kurt Cobain spoke about how he respects hip-hop and rap music, but wasn't too keen on the lyrics or listening to white people do it. "I’m a fan of rap music, but most of it is so misogynist that I can’t even deal with it," Cobain says in the interview. "I’m really not that much of a fan, I totally respect and love it because it’s one of the only original forms of music that’s been introduced, but the white man doing rap is just like watching a white man dance. We can’t dance, we can’t rap.”
