The Foo Fighters Once Took A Double Helicopter Ride To Jam With Mick Jagger On 'SNL'

July 17, 2018

The Foo Fighters have performed on Saturday Night Live seven times, and Dave Grohl has been an almost regular musical appearance since his first performance with Nirvana in 1992.

Aside from appearing an a handful of sketches ("Punched in the Face Before Eating", "Helen Mirren's Magical Bosom", "Punk Band Reunion At The Wedding"), jamming with Jim Carrey as he plays his leg onstage, and being introduced by the legendary Christpher Walken, one particular memory that stands out involves performing with Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger.

"Lorne [Michaels] got on the phone and said, 'Uh, David, we got Mick Jagger's hosting the season finale, but he doesn't have a band right now. So I was wondering if you guys would like to do it.'" Something like is isn't something the Foos would want to pass up. "We had a show that night in New Jersey. We can't get rid of the show, it's already sold out." Grohl says. "We sound-checked here (SNL studios), took a helicopter to the show, played the gig, two-and-a-half hours, then flew back here and did the show."

"Wow, we're onstage with Mick Jagger," says drummer Taylor Hawkins. "You can't believe how preserved the guy is... still such a badass."
