A Film Inspired By Prince's Music In The Works

December 4, 2018

It was announced that Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody became the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time. Now, Universal Pictures intends on pushing out a film based on another musical legend, Prince.

The studio has acquired the rights to a collection of songs by Prince and will be creating a film inspired by his music. Because the 1984 film Purple Rain had already covered a large portion of Prince's life, the studio has decided to make a fictional movie rather than taking the biopic route. According to Yahoo! producers are hoping to put together a film where Prince's songs carry the narrative, similar to that of Mama Mia or Pitch Perfect.

Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince's estate will act as the film's executive producer along with Universal Music Publishing Group Chairman and CEO, Jody Gerson. Other big Hollywood figures attached to the project includes Mike Knobloch, president of Universal Pictures' Global Film Music and Publishing, Universal VP of Production Sara Scott, and Creative Executive Mika Pryce.
