September 30, 2019

Rock in Rio is one of the biggest music festivals in the world where attendees can always expect a stellar show by some of the biggest names in rock. But one performance in particular that struck a chord for Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was when Weezer covered Nirvana's "Lithium." So much that it actually brought him to tears.

"We’re gonna cover a song from Dave Grohl’s old band to tide you over until the main course in a few minutes," said Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo before entering the song. Watch Weezer cover Nirvana's "Lithium" below.

Later in the evening when the Foos took the stage, Grohl reciprocated the gesture during the opening of "Big Me." "Tonight I’m gonna dedicate this one to Weezer," says Grohl. "I was backstage and I heard Weezer play the ‘Lithium’ song. I gotta be honest, I cried a little bit. I did! I miss playing that song. I miss it, so I’m happy to hear Weezer play it again. So this one goes out to the sweet Weezer."
