With ten studio albums under their belts, countless world tours, and even the record for being the first artists to perform on all seven continents, it's no mistake to say that Metallica is one of the most popular bands of all time. Now data from Pollstar claims that Metallica is statistically the world's biggest touring act ever.

According to the report, since their beginnings in 1982, Metallica has sold 22.1 million tickets, grossing $1.4 billion in sales. In comparison, AC/DC have sold a total of 14.3 million tickets since their beginnings and Ozzy Osbourne has sold 13.2 million tickets, both with his run with Black Sabbath and as a solo artist.

The next artist to come close to Metallica's top grossing numbers is Guns N' Roses, which grossed close to $800 million thanks in part to their highly successful Not In This Lifetime tour.

Although U2 currently holds the record for most tickets sold since their start in 1976, Metallica continues to break attendance records on their current world tour and have elevated themselves to other high-profile touring acts like The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran.

Metallica's merch sales have also topped out at $125 million in North America since the release of the "Black Album" in 1991.

Simply based on numbers from ticket sales across 48 countries, a very popular merch line, impressive records sales, and a worldwide fanbase across multiple generations, Metallica could very well be the biggest band on Earth.
