Courtney Love & Nirvana Members Called In As Witnesses In Lawsuit Against Marc Jacobs

May 13, 2019

In December 2018, Nirvana filed a lawsuit against fashion designer Marc Jacobs for redesigning the band's iconic smiley face logo for his "Bootleg Grunge Redux" clothing line without their permission.

After denying ripping off the logo, Jacobs responded by claiming that the band had never trademarked the logo and font in the first place, as well as claiming "there is not entrinsic similarity" between the two designs. By replacing "Nirvana" with "Heaven" and the crossed-out eyes with Marc Jacobs's initials, the designer continues to print their version of the smiley face on sweaters, socks and t-shirts.

According to The Blast, Jacobs is planning on calling Cobain's widow Courtney Love, their daughter Frances Bean Cobain, and surviving bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic as witnesses for the case.
