Charlie Quintana, one of the most respected drummers since the LA punk scene of the '70s and '80s who drummed for Izzy Stradlin and Social Distortion, has passed away at the age of 56.

A solid drummer, Quintana's skill and reliability made him one of the most sought-after musicians of his time, drumming for other artists like Agent Orange, Uncle Cracker and Bob Dylan. Although Quintana left Social Distortion in 2009, he and the band left on good terms. Charlie said of playing with Social Distortion, "Playing with Social D for ten years was a good time in my life. I was lucky to play on two Social D records and the second solo album, and I am proud to have been part of the band. We hit some spectacular heights which I will never forget – adios amigos!”

His passing was announced in a statement on Facebook, which said, "It is with heavy heart that we post our dear friend passed away." The post also mentioned that Charlie moved back to Mexico to help take care of stray dogs. Read the full statement below:

The news of his passing has also struck a chord with many of his friends, former bandmates and colleagues on social media.

As of now, no cause of death has been released.
