Boston's Famous CITGO Sign Will Become An Official Landmark

November 14, 2018

Remember the time when there was talk about removing the famous CITGO sign that stands in Kenmore Square? Well it appears that it won't be going anywhere after all, because the Boston Landmark Commission has given the 'OK' to declare it as an official landmark.

The 60-foot-by-60-foot CITGO sign was first erected in Kenmore Square in 1965, and landmark status will prevent any developments from relocating it, or obstructing its view.

The building on which the sign stands is not part of its landmark status, and the city of Boston has 45 days to veto the commission's declaration before it is made official.
