48 Years Ago: Jimi Hendrix Died at the Age of 27

September 18, 2018

On September 18th, 1970, Jimi Hendrix, the greatest guitarist in all of rock, passed away due to a drug overdose in London. But for the rest of music history, Hendrix's legacy will forever be known as one of the greatest rockers ever.

Only at the age of 27 years old, Hendrix became a member of the 27 Club, which consists of musicians and celebrities who all tragically died at the age of 27. Other members of this group includes Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse.

In 1992, Hendrix was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In a short amount of time, Hendrix was able to put many legendary performances on display, including lighting his guitar on fire, covering "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" directly in front of the Beatles, sharing the stage with Eric Clapton, and performing the "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock.
