11 Rockers That Can Probably Kick Your Ass

January 8, 2019

When you're out on the road touring and you're likely going to be around a somebody that had a little too much to drink, and the s*** hits the fan. So even though many artists do hire security to keep them safe, there are some artists that are comfortable with getting their hands dirty.

Any musician can have a hit, but here are ten rockers that can really pack a punch!

1. Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer)

Maynard is a very busy guy. He fronts three different bands, runs his own winery, he's an author, and so on. Just don't get on his bad side, or else you'll have to answer to his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

2. Rikki Rocket (Poison)

Rikki is known for being one of the bad boys of Poison, and he's a 1st Dan in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to back it up!

3. David Lee Roth (Van Halen)

Remember when David Lee Roth used to bring a sword out onstage? That wasn't just a gimmicky stage prop. Diamond Dave is the real deal. He's trained in martial arts since he was twelve and he even has his own dojo in his house!

4. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)

Dave Mustaine is a warrior on the guitar. He also has the same lethal amount of skill with his black belt in both Taekwondo and Ukidodan Karate.

5. Glenn Danzig (The Misfits, Danzig)

Glenn Danzig never needed anybody to protect him, because he was fully capable of doing it himself. Aside from a black belt in karate, he has even trained in Jeet Kune Do under one of Bruce Lee's apprentices Jerry Poteet.

6. Matt Heafy (Trivium)

Mosh pits are a regular occurance at Trivium's shows, and Matt Heafy has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in case he ever felt like joining in.

7. Henry Rollins (Black Flag)

Although Henry Rollins has no formal training in martial arts, he's made it clear many, many times that he is not someone to be messed with.

8. Jean J. Burnel (The Stranglers)

This bassists doesn't just deliver powerful bass lines. He's also got the power of a 7th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and holds the title of Nanadan. Plus, him being in a band called "The Stranglers" is entirely coincidental.

9. Lou Reed (Velvet Underground)

Unlike many of the other rockers on this list, Reed was an active practitioner of the gentler martial art Tai Chi.

10. Phil Collen (Def Leppard)

In case you were wondering how Phil Collen is able to flash a six-pack at the age of 61, he can credit part of it to his black belt in karate and regular training in Muay Thai!

11. Zoltan Bathory (Five Finger Death Punch)

With a background in Judo, Zoltan Bathory can whip you around as easily as he whips his dreadlocks.

*BONUS* Elvis Presley

Aside from being the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley is also the king of those famous air chops. Although in his later years he sort of made a mockery out of the discipline he loved through intense drug binges, Elvis actually took his training very seriously by achieving the rank of 8th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate from Kang Rhee.
