In 1985, the world would bear witness to one of the greatest music festivals ever assembled. Organized by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in the effort to raise funds to fight famine in Ethiopia, LIVE AID recruited some of the biggest names in music at the time, including QueenDavid BowieU2, and Judas Priest among others.

With one concert in Wembley Stadium in London, England and the other in Philadelphia, PA, both concerts ran simultaneously with a combined estimate of 172,000 people in attendance. About £40 million British pounds ($53.3 million dollars) were raised with half of the money gone to food, and the other half to long-term development in Ethiopia.

Below are some of the best performances of that day.
